Overview
The Sterile Processing Tech plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical procedures by meticulously sterilizing and maintaining medical equipment.
They are essential in preventing the spread of infections and ensuring that healthcare facilities operate smoothly. The role requires a keen eye for detail, adherence to strict protocols, and collaboration with healthcare professionals.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, clean, decontaminate, and sterilize medical instruments and equipment
- Assemble and inspect surgical instrument trays and sets
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment and machinery
- Adhere to infection control protocols and regulations
- Monitor and track inventory of supplies and equipment
- Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to provide sterile instruments and equipment
- Conduct quality assurance and control checks
- Document and maintain accurate records of sterilization processes
- Participate in educational programs and training on sterile processing techniques
- Follow safety standards and protocols
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Assist in the development and improvement of sterile processing procedures
- Handle hazardous materials and waste in accordance with regulations
- Respond to emergency requests for sterile instruments
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification in Sterile Processing Technology or a related field
- Knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control practices
- Understanding of medical terminology and basic anatomy
- Experience in handling and maintaining medical equipment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Attention to detail and meticulous approach to work
- Capability to follow strict protocols and guidelines
- Good physical condition for standing and lifting heavy objects
