Objective Area Solutions (OAS) is seeking an experienced Engineer to join our Aviation Programs Team. This role supports the Federal Aviation Administration, which is responsible for ensuring the safety of 45,000 flights and 3 million passengers traversing over 28 million miles of U.
S. controlled airspace every day. Controlling this airspace requires a comprehensive knowledge of the location of every aircraft, from the time they start their taxi out to the time they arrive at their destination.
This is accomplished using modern and reliable surveillance systems and services.
As an Engineer on this team, the incumbent will work with clients and other team members to support the client's mission to implement systems and services that provide critical surveillance data used by air traffic control to separate air traffic and provide situational awareness for airspace users, sustain systems that support today's tactical operations, and execute new NextGen foundational surveillance technologies.
This is a hybrid position located in the Washington, DC Metro Area.

Position Functions & Skills :
Supporting the company under the direction of the project leadership, this Engineer will provide high-value, practical consulting support in some or all of the following areas :
- Provide engineering support and expertise with new and legacy systems.
- Provide expertise in the transition of legacy systems to modernized systems.
- Apply comprehensive engineering principles to support the investigation, analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, testing, and evaluation of surveillance systems, services, and procedures, particularly the integration and safety assessment of the ATC system.
- Support the FAA in developing operational concepts to support subsequent steps of the system engineering process.
- Draft system / safety project plans, justifications, guidelines, and controls.
- Support all aspects of FAA safety management activities including design assurance analysis, hazard identification and risk management, verification that mitigation measures are incorporated into product design and implementation, and assessment of residual risk and any other safety related activities.
- Perform requirements analysis to transform operational needs into system performance requirements, interface requirements, and functional requirements.
- Provide a variety of technical engineering expertise and assistance involving the implementation, integration, and transition of NAS modernization systems, components, and equipment.
- Perform functional analysis of system requirements.
- Perform hardware and software analyses to provide comparative data or performance characteristics and suitability within the existing environment.
- Assist in the design and development of operational use cases and their integration as part of the requirements management.
- Support planning and conduct of system / service test and evaluation.
- Develop or support development of baseline and overall configuration management and manage configuration controlled baselines.
- Review and prepare engineering, technical, and safety reports and other documentation.
Required Education, Skills & Capabilities :
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering (civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, avionics, environmental or computer).
- 10-15 years of relevant experience (communications, navigation, surveillance, and / or Air Traffic Management systems and operations).
- Demonstrated experience collaborating within small teams and as a self-starter.
- Excellent verbal and written communications.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Office 365.
- Ability to secure Public Trust security clearance.
Preferred Education, Skills & Capabilities :
- Operational aviation experience.
- Experience with radar and air traffic surveillance systems and services.
- Cybersecurity experience.
- Government acquisition experience.
- Public sector consulting experience.
- Ability to secure Secret security clearance.
