Job Summary
The Ultrasongrapher performs diagnostic sonography procedures
Reports to :
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to :
- Independent operation of sonographic equipment and communicating the results of diagnostic examinations using sonography
- Review patient charts and results of previous diagnostic studies and record patient’s personal and medical history prior to performing examinations
- Interview patient and explain procedure(s), any forms needed to be completed, any possible complications, and the amount of time needed; Answer patient questions
- Assist in scheduling patients for ultrasound studies
- Assist physicians in performance of other examinations such as biopsies, thoracenteses, etc..
- Assist in the technical and didactic training of student sonographers
- Correctly charge all examinations according to the proper CPT definition in a timely manner
- All other duties assigned to Radiology Oncology and Imaging services
Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited school of Sonography
- 1 year of hospital or clinic experience in ultrasound
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
- BLS Certified
- Must have or be able to obtain at least (1) registry within the first 12 months of hire into the role
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of GE equipment
- Knowledge of PACS system
- Must be able to follow guidelines set forth by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine regarding the use of ultrasound and its biological effects
- Ability to work rotating work schedules as required to meet department needs
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position works closely with radiologist, physicians, patients, and their families
Physical Capabilities
Work requires frequent walking, standing, lifting, and transporting patients, equipment and / or supplies. Should be able to lift 50 pounds.
Visual acuity is needed to read equipment and patient imaging charts
Environmental / Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is a high risk
