Job Summary

Battelle’s Critical Infrastructure Business Line is currently seeking candidates qualified to serve as a Senior Systems Engineer in support of a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program.

The primary place of performance for this position will be the CBP facilities located in Washington, D.C .

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is charged with managing, securing, and controlling the nation’s borders with a priority mission focus of preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States (US).

CBP represents the front line in the defense of our nation’s borders. The Office of Acquisition (OA) within CBP supports CBP’s mission to manage the Nation’s borders efficiently and effectively by facilitating the acquisition of a mix of infrastructure and technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of sensor and surveillance system requirements, analysis, and evaluation tools including seismic and IR ground sensors and remote airborne sensing.
• Analyzes and interprets complex data. Takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
• Prepares and presents advanced technical reports and presentations to client, both formal and informal.
• Conducts and / or leads technical projects or major tasks of technical projects.
• Provides technical direction to and coordinates the efforts of engineers and technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraints.
• Reviews projects progress and evaluates results.
• Recommends modifications and corrections in technical analyses and design to ensure project completion.
• Prepares technical sections of proposals. May manage proposals or major sections of large proposals.
• Builds relationships with internal and external clients. Prepares and presents final reports to clients and stakeholders.

Communicates with client about the schedule and quality of deliverables.

• Supports business development efforts led by others and maintains business interactions with external clients.
• Contributes to marketing and project development by providing technical expertise and executing responsibilities in client relations.

Investigates new project opportunities.

• May assist with the coordination of and participation in Battelle-sponsored conferences.
• Participates in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and increases company visibility through publications.
• Trains lower-level staff to improve technical development. Coordinates and provides day-to-day work direction to lower-level staff to support overall project goals.

Key Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field with 12 years of experience or master’s degree in related field with 10 years of experience;

or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills along with customer interaction and presentation capabilities.
• Proficient knowledge and experience required of Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint), Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
• Must exemplify a dedication to achieving the mission of the customer as well as high standards of quality and excellence in performing individual duties.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while being able to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
• Must be able to work effectively alone, unsupervised or within a group.
• Ability to travel up to 20%.
• Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Secret clearance and DHS suitability.
• Must be a US citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance
• Active DHS or CBP suitability.
• Experience with DHS clients, systems, and screening processes.
• Experience with ground and airborne sensor networks and associated information displays
