Buckeye Partners is currently seeking an Sr. Engineer, Electrical Reliability with experience in design engineering in the pipeline and terminals business, chemicals industry, or other process industries to join our growing team!
Role Summary : The Sr. Engineer, Electrical Reliability role is an intermediate-level Engineer role responsible for supporting electrical & instrumentation engineering standards as well as working to continuously improve the technical content of our bids, estimates, project construction packages, and maintenance programs.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions include :
- Evaluate system and component performance in their application.
- Responsible for ensuring projects are compliant with all environmental and safety
requirements.
- Lead small capital reliability improvement projects from start to finish.
- Develop QA / QC for critical electrical work.
- Conducts electrical gap assessments primarily through periodic audits to gauge
effectiveness of maintenance and reliability work processes.
Identify reliability opportunities, design improvements, and oversee implementation in
coordination with Operations & Maintenance personnel.
Perform Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) reviews of critical or unreliable
equipment.
- Review Management of Change (MOC)'s and capital projects for reliability improvement opportunities.
- Performs Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Failure Modes Effects Analyses (FMEA) of electrical components.
- Promote an atmosphere of safety excellence through leading by example and
interceding when necessary to correct behaviors.
Ensure that new electrical equipment is designed and installed for long term reliability.
Operations Support.
Provide response to field operations requests for technical assistance and guidance on application of electrical equipment in compliance with established company standards.
Develop Programs / Projects. Create / maintain electrical reliability programs. Types of designs include electrical power load studies, equipment coordination studies / circuit over-current protection, Arc Flash safety studies, grounding systems design and specification, lighting systems design and specification, communication systems.
Design Review. Conduct thorough design reviews and provide work instructions to designers and external design contractors relating to project design packages.
Engineering Standards. Produce, monitor, and improve engineering standards, recommended practices, standard designs, and specifications that form part of the company's design library.
Facility Assessments. Perform site visits to assess current electrical install base, improve facility documentation, and help prepare scope of work information for maintenance capital improvement projects.
Position Requirements :
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
- 15+ years' experience as a working reliability / design engineer in the refining business, chemicals industry, other process industry, or with an engineering firm serving these industries.
- Up to 10% travel
Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities :
Excellent communication, both written and verbal, as well as strong organizational skills
are paramount.
- In order to be successful in this position, one must have excellent analytical skills to resolve business and operations problems and have good communication skills to consult with users to provide technical assistance.
- Skillful in Microsoft Office suite of software, AutoCAD, engineering, and design software packages.
Essential Functions :
- This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or / quantitative productivity standards.
- This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.
Physical & Safety Requirements :
- This role is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. (NOTE : Only on an as needed basis, site walk downs and other in field activities but for shorter duration events)
- Must be able and willing to spend on average 10% of ones time on his / her feet
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside the office to access filing
cabinets, office equipment, etc.
This role continuously operates a computer and other office productivity equipment (i.e.,
a calculator, copy machine and computer printer).
The incumbent in this role must wear Fire Retardant Clothing (FRC) and / or Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE).
- The employee is frequently required to effectively communicate with others.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color
vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol regulations.
