The role :

We are seeking an experienced, executive leader who is responsible for analyzing and researching departmental and divisional finance and business plans to ensure that financial and program objectives are met.

They provide expert advice, consultation, and work product to executive management, internal departments, outside stakeholders, and the Board on strategic initiatives.

The person in this role leads and drives with urgency, anticipating needs and questions, and proactively working with business leaders to execute solutions rapidly.

They model leadership behaviors that encourages a cohesive and results-oriented team approach using facilitation and team leadership techniques, establish effective and collaborative internal and external relationships, and identify, research, recommend, and lead system and process improvement initiatives.

The role requires excellent, proactive communication skills, both orally and in writing, the ability to operate various software programs, and a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.

The AVP must have experience overseeing large, complex initiatives and projects, presenting in front of a variety of groups, managing and motivating team members, and effectively managing multiple complex assignments involving competing priorities.

They must also have demonstrated bias for action, management and problem-solving skills, the ability to anticipate questions and need of the senior leadership team and board, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works in a highly collaborative environment with other members of the finance and accounting teams and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

Key Responsibilities :

  • Partner with the budget development team to co-lead the development of the annual budget, aligning strategic plan with budget, budgetary instructions and procedures, cost estimates, and detailed review of the preliminary and final budget documents and prepare assigned portions of the annual budget.
  • Analyze and evaluate departmental and respective divisions’ finance and business plans to ensure that financial and program and service delivery objectives meet business needs.

Make recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer about funding allocations and opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce risk.

Responsible for providing recommendations and forecasts for future funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies;

recommends efficiencies to keep costs within established financial guidelines.

Provides a broad range of financial consulting services to the Centers of Excellence. Develops models for forecasting and recommends financing for business needs;

researches and responds to technical financial questions; interprets financial cost information and budget reports for management.

This position organizes, plans, and executes large-scale projects of significant scope, cost and community impact within the association.

This position is responsible for establishing and reviewing business and project plans, and providing multi-discipline technical direction on projects and is fully responsible for developing work plans, preparing budget and objectives to be realized and completion target dates for projects.

Projects may consist of a series of projects of limited duration or a single project of a defined duration.

  • Resolves position control discrepancies and authorizes corrective action; review and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll related reports.
  • Lead and coordinate the development, administration, and maintenance of the Capital Expenditure Program and Capital Facilities (Real Estate) Program.
  • Provides financial analysis and long-range planning for assigned projects and funds.
  • Researches, develops, and recommends financial processes, strategies, methods, plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates and creates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and forecasts. Coordinates the production of financial publications, documents, and other reporting projects as needed.
  • Present financial and operational information in various periodic and ad hoc statistical and financial reports and presentations, provide analysis and consultation to business units and work closely to ensure the process is understood and being followed.
  • Identify, research, recommend, and lead system and process improvement initiatives to support innovation, standardization, workflow efficiencies and streamline operations.

Guide continuous process improvement to further leverage finance systems and ensure effectiveness.

Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to maintain effective oversight and understanding of Association activities, which contributes to early identification of transactions and changes that could have potential accounting and financial impacts.

Collaborate with operations, business offices and other process owners to identify and implement system-based solutions to emerging issues caused by changes in business requirements.

Represent the CFO on cross-functional teams, committees and special projects.

Lead and support association-wide asset management to ensure consistency and prioritization of capex resources, and collaborates with other business units to support operational, asset, financial, and / or resource planning efforts.

This position assists with decision support analysis, reporting, and research. Maintains project and operational plan data and monitors performance on goals.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders related to projects, coordinate program or project activities with stakeholders and facilitate development of consensus among diverse groups and individuals and may represent the association in meetings and other forums.
  • Direct and integrate all aspects of complex projects using project management and strategic long-range planning tools;

accounting for regulations, and policies; use budgeting tools and fiscal guidelines; manage contract administration.

  • Organize multiple complex assignments involving competing priorities and analyzing situations to develop a course of action to produce accurate, thorough, and on-time work products.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of multiple projects and make or recommend modifications including analysis of matters with potentially significant impact to the agency, community, or budget, and develop courses of action needed to manage such modifications.
  • Conduct post-project analyses to determine if goals were met and performance measures achieved; provide results to leadership on a regular basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. Candidates must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the Chief Financial Officer and other Senior Leadership Team-Members, as well as board committees.
  • Strong listening skills with appropriate follow-up both verbally and in writing are sought.
  • Experience overseeing large, complex initiatives and projects and collaborating with departments that are experiencing high levels of change.
  • Experience with presenting in front of a variety of groups; from the community groups, business community, and local organizations, and the Board.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and the ability to work collaboratively towards these goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaming, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Experience effectively managing and motivating team-members to achieve high quality work products. An ability to work effectively in teams as both a leader and a participant.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of information technology equipment, including various software programs, as well as the aptitude to learn new and innovative equipment / systems / software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited institution and 10 years of progressively responsible Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounting and Project Management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

FPAC and / or CPA and seven years’ experience managing FP&A or Accounting operations in a supervisory capacity.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS : $130k-$145k total compensation
