The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in biochemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 15, 2025.

We seek innovative teacher-scholars who demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to (1) excellence in lecture and laboratory teaching at all undergraduate levels, particularly in the year-long Biochemistry sequence, (2) developing and conducting a thriving, independent biochemical research program with undergraduate research students, (3) mentoring and teaching students from diverse backgrounds, and (4) participating in service activities at the academic, professional, and / or community levels.

A PhD (held by August 15, 2025) in biochemistry or a closely related field is required.

The successful candidate is expected to teach Biochemistry lecture and laboratory courses, upper divisional electives within the candidate’s area of expertise, and any other courses to fill departmental needs.

In addition to excellent teaching, the successful candidate is expected to establish an active research program that will include undergraduate students, exposing them to current biochemistry research techniques.

  • A statement of current research and your plans for establishing a thriving, independent research program in your area of expertise at LMU, including how you plan to involve undergraduate students (3-5 pages recommended, 7 pages maximum length);
  • A statement that addresses past and / or potential contributions to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (1-2 pages recommended, 2 pages maximum length).
