Quality Assurance Specialist, RNT

Essential Responsibilities, include but are not limited to :
- Regulatory Compliance :
- Ensure nursing practices comply with Illinois Rule 116 and other state and federal regulations.
- Monitor changes in regulations and update nursing protocols as necessary to maintain compliance, recommending policy changes to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Document Management :
- Review the Electronic Records System to ensure that records are uploaded correctly and easily retrievable.
- Responsible for document retrieval of nursing files associated with Rule 116 before and during state audits in coordination with Health Service Administrator.
- Train staff to categorize documents for proper electronic storage as needed.
- Auditing and Monitoring :
- Conduct regular audits of med carts in CILA locations to ensure compliance with Rule 116.
- Conduct regular check-ins with ADSPs to observe med passes to ensure compliance with Rule 116.
- Conduct regular audits of member documentation associated with Rule 116 including Nursing Assessments, Self-Administration of Medication Assessments, Medication Administration Records (MAR) and Physician Order Sheets (POS), and Medication Error Reports.
- Review DSP records in coordination with Human Resources and Training to verify the DSP has all required elements to take the medication administration class.
- Review ADSP records for quality checks prior to upkeeping the approved med passer list for the organization.
- Medication Management :
- Chair of Medication Error Review Committee
- Review and compile a quarterly summary of medication errors.
- Lead quarterly meetings to review medication errors and determine necessary corrective actions. Follow up on medication errors to ensure resolution and retraining of ADSPs.
Quality Improvement :
- Stay informed of best practices in the field of I / DD nursing and quality assurance.
- Develop and implement quality assurance protocols specific to Rule 116.
- Analyze data and identify trends to drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to develop and refine practices that enhance service delivery.
Compliance and Training :
Create a tracking process to assist House Managers in ensuring staff training is up to date.
Run compliance reports to ensure HRSTs are always in compliance along with clinical reviews for those with a Health Care Level (HCL) of 3 and above.
Training and Development :
Provide training to nursing staff on QA protocols surrounding Rule 116, regulatory requirements, and best practices in service delivery.
Data Management and Reporting :
Maintain accurate records of QA activities and outcomes.
Prepare reports for the Director of Quality Assurance, Nursing Leadership, and regulatory bodies as required.
Utilize data to inform strategic decision-making and continuous quality improvement efforts.
Collaboration :
- Work closely with the nursing department to foster a culture of quality and compliance.
- Serve as a resource for nursing staff regarding quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Work may include evenings and weekends, with the ability to vary schedule from week to week.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, SKILLS, and / or EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Current RN license in the state of Illinois.
- RNT certification preferred.
Experience :
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a nursing role, with at least one year of experience working in the I / DD fie experience in quality assurance or compliance in healthcare, with a strong understanding of Illinois Rule 116.
Skills and Abilities :
- In-depth knowledge of Illinois Rule 116 and other relevant regulations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively with nursing and interdisciplinary teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant healthcare software.
- Strong project management skills.
Certifications :
- DHS Nurse Trainer Certification for Rule 116
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or similar certification preferred.
- CPR certification required.
Other Requirements :
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service and compliance.
- Ability to travel within the city of Chicago and suburbs as needed.
