Pay range for new hires : $23.08 - $36.93 / hr

Job Overview :
Assists the laboratory department by performing phlebotomies and all standard laboratory procedures by following established policies and procedures.
Primary Scope of Responsibilities :
- Acknowledges and greets customers in a courteous manner and exhibits the AVH core values consistently with all interactions.
- Performs patient and family assessment and problem identification, plans care accordingly, and implements and evaluates plan of care so that problems are resolved.
- Answers all incoming external and internal calls by clearly stating the facility and employee name, screens calls to identify the appropriate department or person.
Performs in-patient, out-patient and emergency room phlebotomies using established laboratory techniques, including proper needle disposal and safety measures, IV starts with competency, documents specimen rejection, responsiveness to prioritize workload.
Enters data for Laboratory orders including standing orders, scheduling protocols, therapeutic, outpatients and coordinates with diagnostic scheduling, diagnostic coding, CPT’s, ICD10, physician authorization per AVH bylaws, specialized testing and kit orders, misc.
orders, primary reference lab protocols, process and assist specimen processing. Informs and educates patients on all new insurance information updates and mandatory Advanced Beneficiary Notice Form, Medically Necessity requirement through Medicare and Managed care providers, and scheduling protocols.
- All Employees are accountable to comply with any Joint Commission, departmental, and hospital wide policies and procedures that are pertinent to their role, and employment with the organization.
- Participates in overall department and facility quality improvement plan as requested. Quality management of pre-analytic, analytic, post-analytic processes, and proficiency testing as assigned.
Implements correct charges procedures and monitors daily for accurate charging in the department.
Performs all CLIA-waived testing, CAP proficiency testing with accuracy as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements :
- 2-3 years phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the latest phlebotomy technique preferred, and encouraged within one year of employment.
- Strong Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital procedures.
- Ability to concentrate and show attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Proven ability to work independently, required.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, required.
- Bi Lingual in Spanish preferred.
- Certified Phlebotomist preferred
- Current BLS Certification within six months of hire.
- Required certifications through American Heart Association : BLS
