Overview
As an Information Governance Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the firm’s information governance policies and procedures.
This role is critical in ensuring that the firm's data and information assets are managed effectively, securely, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
You will work closely with legal, IT, and records management teams to ensure the firm’s information governance strategy aligns with its business goals and legal obligations.
This is an on-site position, but will consider remote options for the right candidate.
A Day in the Life
The key responsibilities include policy development and implementation, encompassing the maintenance of comprehensive information governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
Additionally, educating and training staff on information governance practices and responsibilities is integral. The role extends to data management and security oversight, involving the management of electronic and physical records, implementation, and maintenance of data security measures in collaboration with IT, and the management of data access controls and information lifecycle processes.
Monitoring compliance with information governance policies, conducting regular audits and risk assessments, and liaising with legal teams to address any legal or compliance issues constitute the compliance and risk management aspects of the role.
As a manager, leading projects related to information governance initiatives, collaborating with various departments for successful project execution, and tracking / reporting project progress to senior management are crucial.
Vendor management involves overseeing relationships with external vendors providing information governance-related services, including the evaluation and selection of vendors based on performance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
Lastly, a focus on continuous improvement is essential, requiring the Information Governance Manager to stay informed about developments in information governance, legal technology, and compliance, and to recommend and implement improvements to information governance practices.
We Know You
The ideal candidate for this position should possess a Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Law, IT, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in information governance is required, preferably within a law firm or legal environment.
The candidate should demonstrate a solid understanding of legal and regulatory requirements pertaining to information management and data protection.
Strong project management and leadership skills are essential for successfully overseeing information governance initiatives.
Additionally, the candidate should exhibit excellent communication, analytical, and organizational abilities to effectively navigate the complexities of this role.
- Certification in information governance or related field is a plus.
- Experience with legal technology and records management software.
