About The Position
Job Title : Surgical Technologist Job Specialty : Scrub Technologist Job Duration : 13 Weeks Shift : Variable Guaranteed Hours : Not specified Experience : Minimum 3 years;
Ophthalmic surgery experience preferred License : State registration required Certifications : Current CPR certification Must-Have : Completion of accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent clinical surgery training and experience Job Description : Prepare and maintain medical equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical procedures.
Assist with surgical patient care under the direction of an RN or physician.- Verify supplies, equipment, and instruments are available for procedures;
accurately pull case materials and complete checklists.- Prepare the operating suite / sterile field for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Participate in the timeout process prior to every surgical case.- Perform room turnover, including case breakdown, cleaning, and setup.
- Adhere to principles of sterility, aseptic technique, infection control, and safety guidelines.- Anticipate needs of the patient and surgeon;
demonstrate critical thinking and prioritization skills.- Prepare medications for procedures under supervision; know routine drugs used intra-operatively.
Maintain sterile field and utilize sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.- Inspect equipment and instruments for defects or breakage;
manage defective equipment appropriately.- Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization methods and reprocess surgical instruments per manufacturer's instructions.
- Communicate and update preference cards; ensure accuracy with OR team collaboration.- Exhibit professionalism and respect toward all surgical team members.
- Uphold hospital philosophy, mission, and values; ensure confidentiality of patient care and personnel information.- Maintain positive working relationships and adhere to appropriate conduct and problem-solving protocols.
- Physical requirements include lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling up to 50 pounds, and various manual labor tasks.
- Be aware of environmental hazards and use protective clothing / equipment as necessary.
