The Survey & Lands Engineering (SLE) Division measures and provides geospatial information necessary for the development of design, construction, and maintenance of the New Mexico state transportation system.
SLE supports all surveying and mapping activities required to fulfill the New Mexico Department of Transportation's (NMDOT) obligation to transportation projects in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
Why does the job exist?
This position provides supervision and leadership to a Geodetic Surveying Field Unit to fulfill NMDOT's obligation to survey transportation projects to meet operational needs and support the development of construction plans in support of the annual construction program STIP.
How does it get done?
This position manages and supports statewide geodetic control surveying utilizing available resources and technologies in order to assure quality of services and product are being delivered to support planning, surveying, design, and construction on NMDOT projects.
Incumbent assists in the development of staff through training and performance evaluations. This is accomplished by keeping up with technologies and knowing the capabilities / limits of the technology.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following :
- Methodologies in GPS surveying, least squares adjustments, and network adjustments.
- Trimble GPS surveying instruments.
- Trimble data controllers.
- Trimble Business Center.
- Autodesk / AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- A high level of expertise and understanding of geodesy, satellite geodesy, and global datums.
- Map projections.
Minimum Qualification
Licensed Professional Surveyor in the State of New Mexico with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant surveying experience.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Employment requires successful completion of pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
