Description
The Specialty Medical Assistant works as part of a health care team within a procedural specialty area by assisting the physician in providing high quality patient care in a professional, efficient and safe manner.
The Medical Assistant will also provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to patients.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities :
OFFICE VISITS :
- Introduces self to patient while escorting patient into exam room
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height, as needed
- Assist patient and physician throughout the visit
- Collects, labels and processes specimens accurately
- Maintains clean patient exam rooms
- Assemble and use equipment appropriate to specific medical practice
- Prepare instruments for sterilization and dispose of contaminated supplies, as needed
- Communicates delays effectively when necessary
MISCELLANEOUS :
- Provides clerical support to patients such as but not limited to making appointments, booking procedures, obtaining pre-authorizations and answering telephones
- Manages medical inventory and supply ordering based on par levels
CHARTING :
- Enters patient information into the computer accurately
- Manages the physician’s desktop accurately and in a timely and efficient manner
ADVANCED SKILLS :
- Schedules procedures
- Assist with cervical and epidural injections
- Manages c-arm during procedures
- Assists with radiofrequency procedures
- Manages drug screenings
- Initiates patient contracts for compliance
Education / Certifications / Licenses :
- High school diploma
- MA certificate or equivalent experience
Performance Standards for Specialty Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Medical office experience preferred
- Must be able to multitask in a high volume, fast-paced environment
- Phlebotomy certification and experience is a plus
- Demonstrates positive attitude and excellent customer service skills
- Strong communication skills
