Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads both students and employers for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force.
TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20.
Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions.
The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions.
Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This part-time position will identify, develop and coordinate training programs that prepare candidates to meet the workforce needs of local employers in the fields of business and information technology.
The Business and IT Program Coordinator provides general oversight for the Workforce Solutions Business and IT training programs (Open Enrollment and Customized Training), including budget monitoring, ordering materials and supplies, course development and scheduling, coordination of classroom use, program accreditation, if required, and coordination of instructional personnel.
The Program Coordinator is responsible for identifying, responding to requests for, and developing customized training opportunities for business and information technology training.
Responsible for conducting business needs assessments, research, and analysis to identify potential open enrollment courses to offer and develops and submits course proposals to Workforce Solutions for approval.
Incumbent coordinates instructional staff, provides oversight on certification programs and ensures the program operates within guidelines and in compliance with credentialing entities as identified.
Communicates frequently in a proactive manner with both internal and external contacts to plan, develop, and deliver training programs.
Applies knowledge of adult training, development and evaluation, teaching aids and techniques, and ensures students are prepared and course evaluations return a satisfactory rating.
Monitors all expenditures for program operation in compliance with the Business and IT Programs operating budget. Meets regularly with the Associate Vice President for Workforce Solutions to review budget reports, and plan budget projections for future fiscal years.
Functional Responsibilities
- Working knowledge of adult training, development and evaluation, teaching aids and techniques.· Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of PC-based software including features of word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, database, and communication packages.
- Experience coordinating an instructional program and developing curriculum plans· Demonstrated ability to communicate with internal and external constituencies in a persuasive and professional manner, including articulating the college’s message while establishing cooperative working relationships with a diverse array of individuals contacted in the course of the performance of assigned duties.
- Demonstrative ability to deal effectively with vendors, employers and agency personnel at all levels, ability to follow instructions and to maintain harmonious and productive working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize a variety of job responsibilities, meet reporting deadlines, and adapt to rapid changes in priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze facts, alternatives, and problems and produce detailed and accurate work. Minimum Qualifications :
- Ability to conduct research regarding business trends / needs and to create reports identifying training opportunities.
- Ability to make oral and written presentations and develop training proposals.· Ability to manage projects / programs including establishing deadlines, tracking progress, and monitoring inventory and budgets.
- Ability to develop high quality course content in Business and Information Technology.· Ability to read, interpret, and apply policy.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a diverse team.· Demonstrated ability to coordinate staffing needs and program requirements.
