How My Position Supports our Mission

While receiving leadership support from the Leader of Transportation Operations, the Truck Driver will Elevate People, Transform Communities by being responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a tractor / trailer or straight truck, driving predetermined routes to support store and post-retail sales deliveries, merchandise acquisitions and donation drives.

This position also ensures that all activities are performed in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision, values and brand of Goodwill.

Key Responsibilities

The Truck Driver will assess trailer load before transport and communicate noncompliance of loading procedures to the Transportation Team Leader and Store Team Leader.

The person in this role will load, transport and unload materials in a manner that safeguards, protects and prevents damage to donations and equipment.

Truck Drivers will follow designated routes and prescribed route run times and recommend route changes that may increase efficiencies, add value to routing or increase fuel efficiency.

The Truck Driver will accurately and promptly complete all DOT logs and routing paperwork as required while assisting in other warehouse operations such as working the yard, loading / unloading the truck, etc.

as needed. The person in this role will ensure that the highest level of customer service standards are met when dealing with both internal and external customers and when accepting and handling donated material from public and private donors.

This role may support annual weekend donation drives as well as specialized donation pickups and delivery of those donations.

The Truck Driver will maintain the interior and exterior of the vehicle to meet agency and DOT standards and report maintenance needs or concerns promptly to the Transportation Team Leader.

This role will use assigned tools with care and skill, make truck maintenance checks and follow trailer repair procedures as prescribed.

The person in this role will perform driver’s vehicle condition inspection on all vehicles before and after transport, maintain that inspection in the tractor cab when enroute and will report any damage to property immediately to the Transportation Team Leader via the truck cell phone, filling out an accident report log in the tractor and giving a written report as needed.

  • Work is performed in warehouse and over-the-road driving conditions with minimal team member contact and interruptions.
  • Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a warehouse and distribution setting with temperatures ranging from 10-95 degrees Fahrenheit;

to sit for prolonged periods of time or on your feet most of the day depending on needs; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, lift, carry, push and / or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.

  • May operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, including use of a computer keyboard.
  • Verbally communicate to exchange information.

What I Must Bring

  • At least one year of tractor / trailer driving experience driving a 10-speed split shift vehicle is required.
  • Class A CDL certified on tractor / trailer operations is required.
  • At least 50,000 logged and verifiable miles.
  • Prior experience with DOT paperwork, log books and DOT regulations.
  • Safe driving record that falls within the Goodwill Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Current forklift certification is preferred.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations is desired.
  • Experience of at least a basic level of competency with computers to complete e-learning opportunities and use G-Wiz.
