Summary :
The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinicalsetting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness ofall relevant aspects of a situation.
Provides routine and complexcare, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continuesto develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies ofclinical nursing.
Makes appropriate assignments and delegates toother care providers as a means to help manage the clinicalsituation.
Our 27-bed EmergencyDepartment is designated as a Level 4 Trauma Center. The ED iscapable of providing emergency, urgent and non-urgent care topatients of all ages.
Patients in need of medical-surgical andsub-specialty services are seen and treated in the EmergencyDepartment. The patients seeking care have a wide range of needsfrom basic ambulatory care to trauma intervention and life support.
We are a primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) centerand Primary Stroke Center. Currently working on an ED expansionplan to include the addition of patient treatments rooms as well asCT, X-Ray and Laboratory all located inside the EmergencyDepartment.

Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUSCompetencies : Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader ofLeaders.
- Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standardsof Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process,including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention andevaluation for assigned patients.
- Addressesincreasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and socialneeds of patient and families in accordance with their level ofpractice.
- Using the appropriate protocol, administersmedications and treatments; monitors for side-effects andeffectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
- Documentspatient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
- Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, familymembers and / or care givers; identify issues and resources.

- Recognizes unexpected readings and alerts nursing or medicalstaff
- Relates examples of mis-readings ormisinterpretations and lessons learned
- Reviews,discusses and validates own interpretation with others
Patient Safety
- Shares experienceswith ensuring safety for one or more patient groups orsettings

Requirements :
- Associate's Degree inNursing
- One year experience in nursingpreferred.
- Current Texas State RN License orCompact RN License
- BLS (American HeartAssociation)
- ACLS required at time of hire forexperienced RNs. New graduate nurses must obtain ACLS by the end ofthe clinical orientation period.
- PALS requiredat time of hire for experienced RNs. New graduate nurses mustobtain PALS by the end of the clinical orientationperiod.
- Crisis intervention training requiredwithin 12 months of hire / transfer date
- Fortrauma designated facilities, TNCC required within 6 weeks of hirefor experienced RNs. New graduate nurses must obtain TNCC within 18months of hire / transfer date.
