The Department of Psychiatry in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a Manager of Research Data Management in their Office of Data Management.
In this manager level position, you will oversee research data initiatives in Psychiatry (e.g., data management, data sharing, training, project planning) in coordination with research, information technology, and administrative stakeholders.
Primary responsibilities of this position span research database development and management, project management, and staff supervision.
You will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale databases for research projects focused on mental health.
You will aid in data management planning and budgeting for research projects with a diverse set of investigators. You will be responsible for the supervision of 3-5 data managers / analysts.
The ideal candidate would be experienced in relational research database management and programming; be highly organized and detail-oriented;
have an ability to prioritize among multiple tasks; and possess strong interpersonal / supervisory skills including teamwork, friendliness, communication, dependability, flexibility, and leadership.
You will work closely with the faculty director of data management, senior departmental administration, and the Office of Academic Computing, as well as with a diverse set of data managers, analysts / statisticians, clinical research investigators, and the Sleep and Behavioral Neuroscience Center.
This is a Regular Full-Time position with hours ranging primarily Monday Friday. This is a hybrid position; however, applicants must be able to commute as needed to Western Psychiatric Hospital, located in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh.
This position is partially grant funded.
Responsibilities :
- Manage the Department of Psychiatry Data Management team. Responsible for setting policy and maintaining the technical expertise of the department.
- In collaboration with the Departmental project management team, establish data management team assignments and allocate resources as needed to meet established objectives.
- Work closely with Psychiatry faculty and investigators during study planning and start up and oversee training of personnel to manage project-specific data.
- Plan and lead new data management projects, including staff coordination. Collaborate with other technical teams, as appropriate, for successful completion of project.
Manage multiple, complex projects. Develop budget estimates and workload requirements for projects. Facilitate full project management lifecycle and mentor team members in aspects of project management.
Prioritize projects based on business needs.
Handle complex requests for database design. Show the ability to develop database, tracking, and reporting tools that others can use.
Provide supervision and feedback to less experienced team members. Monitor change requests. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Responsible for managing shared relational research databases, including identifying and supervising relevant system updates.
Oversee the management of specific, high-input data projects including but not limited to managing data from the Sleep and Behavioral Neuroscience Center used by multiple investigators, working with the Office of Academic Computing to design and implement strategies for standardizing and documenting the accurate and efficient receipt, editing, reporting, storing, and retrieval of research data.
- Protect the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through quality control processes, as well as physical and electronic measures.
- Recruit and train data management staff, supervise staff whose time and responsibilities are distributed among investigators and studies, and conduct performance reviews as required by organization policies.
- Function with the faculty director of data management in developing new data management and reporting initiatives into the operation of the Psychiatry research community.
- Create detail-oriented data management standards for the department in collaboration with the Office of Academic Computing.
Document new and moderately complex processes. Is responsible for the quality and validity of the departmental documentation.
- Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Health or Social Sciences, or Biostatistics and 5 years of experience in research data management is required OR
- Masters degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Health or Social Sciences, or Biostatistics and 2 years of experience in research data management is required.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in administration of a relational database systems and training in Microsoft Server SQL Server is necessary.
- Some familiarity with programming R, Python, or Matlab is preferred. Familiarity with analytics tools, including Tableau, Microsoft Access, PowerBI, RedCap, or Qualtrics is preferred.
- Able to apply advanced knowledge in a primary discipline and working knowledge in multiple relevant disciplines to create solutions for complex technical situations.

Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
ADDITIONAL TASKS :
Complete and pass on-line ethics and research practice training modules as required by the University of Pittsburgh and the National Institutes of Health.
Completes other trainings as required by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies / behaviors.
