POSITION SUMMARY

To provide direct instruction to students in a special education program attending the FHS Evening Academy in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the opportunity gap among subgroups within the schools.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

A valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Moderate Disabilities 8-12 is required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :

Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Experience working with EL Learners and with students within inclusion, small groups, and individual settings. Candidates who are

bilingual in Spanish and / or Portuguese are strongly preferred.

to operate and / or acquire skills to operate a computer and related software including but not limited to Google; and ability / willingness to plan, coordinate, conduct and participate in ongoing professional and staff development as required and requested by District leaders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Participates in a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Provides opportunities for sheltered instruction of the content to support language development for English learners.
  • Teaches course content in alignment with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Assesses student learning in alignment with language objectives and mastery of state standards. Provides progress reports as needed or required.
  • Develop a success plan for students that meets the student's holistic needs.
  • Modify and adapt existing Scope and Sequence and submit to Coordinator in advance of course.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may be required to traverse occasionally throughout the school building.

The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel;

and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s / he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.

e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids.

The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone.

In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction.

On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.

The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.

Coordinator of the FHS Evening Academy.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

None.
