WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC

The Public Works Services Department's mission is to provide efficient stewardship of the City's public works infrastructure.

  • Staff : 161 Employees ( FT and PT)
  • Facilities : Services 15 City facilities and 8 Fire District facilities
  • Parks and Landscape : Maintains 31 parks, Adult Sports Park and baseball stadium, 125 street front miles of landscape, and a comprehensive inventory of trees, paseos, and trails.
  • Street / Fleet / Storm Drain : Maintains 534 roadway miles, including 4,004 catch basins and 226 signalized intersections, and provides fleet maintenance for 166 vehicles and over 140 pieces of on and off-road equipment.
  • Administration / Project Management : Manages departmental support services, contracts, safety and risk management, budget, and capital maintenance projects.

You'll be responsible for :

  • Leading and managing a motivated team.
  • Three large divisions including Facilities, Parks, and Streets.
  • Supervising day-to-day activities and programs within the department.
  • Managing several challenging capital projects.
  • Overseeing, evaluating, and projecting costs for the yearly budget.
  • Public outreach on telling the Public Works Services story.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Education / Experience :

Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration or related field.

At least four years of responsible management and supervisory experience. Six years of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of public works maintenance in the functional areas of : streets, parks, trees, storm drains, facilities and vehicle maintenance and replacement.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of advanced principles and practices of public works operations administration and engineering, and the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of community assets, such as trees, parks, streets, storm drains, facilities, vehicles and equipment;
  • principles and practices of organization, administration and personnel management and leadership as well as supervision, training and performance evaluation;
  • analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs; Knowledge of Park development, construction, and maintenance;
  • Familiarity and experience with Applicable Federal, State and local laws, ordinances, codes and regulations; occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the work;
  • current technological and communication equipment and software applicable to the delivery of departmental services to internal and external customers;
  • principles and practices of engineering as they relate to public works facilities. Ability to direct, plan and organize the activities of a comprehensive citywide services department responsible for a broad range of public works activities such as, facilities, field and equipment maintenance programs and services;
  • communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; prepare and administer a budget; analyze problems, identify solutions, project outcomes of proposed outcomes and implement recommendations in support of goals;

develop and administer sound department policies, procedures and performance measurements including effective communication and cooperative working relationships with other departments, external and regulatory agencies and the general community.

Special Requirements : Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver's License, and have a satisfactory driving record.

Ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays and on-call basis.

  • Medical - $1,275 per month City paid (Effective the first full-pay period in December 2024, City-paid medical increases to $1,400)
