Job Summary

The Process Improvement Advisor reports directly to the Process Excellence Manager and is responsible for :

  • Leading, supporting, and consulting on the planning and execution of process improvement initiatives
  • Serving as subject matter expert and supporting the development of process improvement capabilities and practices
  • Providing process improvement training, coaching, and mentoring

Leads, supports, and consults on the planning and execution of process improvement initiatives, with duties including but not limited to :

  • Assessing potential process improvement opportunities and producing recommended next steps;
  • Developing plans for process improvement initiatives of various size and complexity;
  • Identifying resource requirements and building teams that promote mutual accountability, empowerment, and open dialogue to achieve process improvement goals;
  • Facilitating cross-functional team meetings and workgroups towards achievement of objectives;
  • Communicating progress updates, health status, as well as identifying, managing, and escalating risks to mitigate adverse impacts to process improvement efforts;
  • Applying basic to advanced concepts, principles, theories, and techniques to systematically approach process improvement initiatives;
  • Determining and employing appropriate process improvement tools, such as data collection plans, process observations, run charts, process mapping, and root cause analysis, to advance process improvement initiatives;
  • Identifying, tracking, and fulfilling process improvement milestones and deliverables timely;
  • Developing sustainable plans to ensure benefits realization and ongoing process management by organizational partners prior to conclusion of process improvement initiatives;
  • Applying and promoting change management principles to support the success of process improvement initiatives.

Serves as subject matter expert and supports the development of process improvement capabilities and practices, with duties including but not limited to :

  • Supporting the research, design, adoption, and evolution of a process improvement model that best meets organizational needs;
  • Identifying and utilizing process improvement concepts, strategies, and emerging practices;
  • Supporting the development and management of the processes required to implement and sustain a culture of process improvement;
  • Supporting data collection, analysis, and reporting activities to monitor organizational performance and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Designing tools and templates for use in process improvement activities;
  • Researching and leveraging assessment models to evaluate organizational process improvement maturity and effectiveness.

Provides process improvement training, coaching, and mentoring, with duties including but not limited to :

  • Identifying opportunities to promote and enhance organizational process improvement awareness and learning;
  • Developing presentations and effectively communicating information to all levels of the organization;
  • Supporting the development of process improvement training curriculum, activities, and materials;
  • Facilitating and conducting training on process improvement principles and capabilities;
  • Providing and promoting a continuous learning environment for all knowledge, skill and ability levels;
  • Serving as a resource to organizational partners desiring to enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities through established process improvement coaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Required :

  • Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in the application of process improvement principles, methodologies, best practices and tools
  • Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in applying collaborative leadership and people management skills, including leading team building, facilitating groups, problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiating with and influencing others
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of statistical process control
  • Working knowledge of basic project management principles, methodologies, and tools
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to motivate, coach, mentor, build investment and commitment, and hold others accountable
  • Ability to develop and deliver training curriculum in support of programmatic objectives
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, accurately collect, manage and analyze data, identify issues, offer recommendations and potential consequences, and mitigate risk
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and achieve goals and timelines
  • Ability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams as a leader or a member
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations and adjust communication style in order to facilitate collaboration and understanding
  • Ability to create reports, correspondence, visuals, and other documentation in support of effectively communicating information
  • Ability to plan, lead, assign, oversee and evaluate the work of others

Education and Experience

Required

Bachelor's degree in business, health care, industrial engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of process improvement experience;

or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be qualifying.

Desired

  • Master's degree in business, health care, industrial engineering or a related field
  • Completion of training in Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
  • Training in organizational development or change management principles
  • Experience in the application of process improvement within the health care industry
  • Working knowledge of Medi-Cal, Medicaid or managed care
  • Working knowledge of health care delivery systems
  • Experience working with the Department of Healthcare Services, Department of Managed Health Care, or other health care regulatory oversight bodies
