The Position The Swim Instructor works with the Bulldogs Swim School and teaches swimming basics to children of all ages 3 to 12 years old.

Duties and Responsibilities The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position.

  • Plan lessons and follow the instruction curriculum
  • Present proper demonstrations of skills in the water with students
  • Maintain a safe and positive teaching environment
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and complete written evaluations of students
  • Effectively communicate student progress to parents
  • Teach basic swimming skills to children ages 3 to 12 years old

Minimum Qualifications

Experience working with children

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be friendly, outgoing, and able to motivate students
  • Ability to teach both group and private lessons to children and adults
  • Must be able to adapt and be flexible
  • Ability to anticipate possible hazardous situations and ensure the safety of students

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 20 40lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2-5 years swim teaching history
  • CPR Certified and / or Lifeguard Certified (we will provide certification if yours is not current)
  • Available to teach weekday evenings 3 : 00 pm-8 : 30 pm and weekends 9 : 00 am -2 : 30 pm

Conditions of Employment Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following :

Please note that the California Education Code requires, in part, that community college districts shall not employ or retain in employment persons in public school service who have been convicted of certain felonies, a misdemeanor drug charge (including alcohol offenses) or misdemeanor moral turpitude (sexual offense) crime.

However, consideration may be given to those whose drug convictions occurred more than five years ago. A conviction for other crimes may not necessarily disqualify you from the job for which you may be applying.
