THE POSITION :

The Nurse Manager Provides quality patient care and management of all patients and nursing staff working in the Outpatient Department.

Functions in a supervisory capacity for nurses and medical assistants while maintaining a working caseload. Coordinates the activities of the nursing department.

Directs, organizes, and assigns work to staff within the department. Serves as a backup.

Additional duties include :

• Plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions of the Outpatient Nursing department. Hires, supervises, and evaluates the performance of staff nurses and medical assistants.
• Coordinates the activities of the nursing department, is responsible for scheduling and providing coverage, and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff.
• Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care and customer service.
• Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.
• Develops productive work teams.
• Provides face to face, emergency and / or crisis related services for clients as needed.
• Responsible for scheduling and coordinating the provision of nursing services and coverage for the Outpatient department.

Maintains department payroll documentation.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE :

Education :

• Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred
• A valid State of Iowa license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) required

Skills and Experience :

• A minimum of 5 years experience working in the mental health field required.
• 3 years experience working in a management or supervisory capacity is preferred.
• Organizational skills are required to plan schedules and manage inventory
• Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential in order to give direction to and support other nurses
• Advanced spreadsheet and word processing skills (MS Office) required; experience with Electronic Medical Record systems preferred.
