Major Responsibilities and Duties :
- To identify children whose speech or language impairments interfere with their learning.
- To diagnose and appraise specific speech or language impairments.
- To compile speech assessment reports as per SBOE rules
- To assist in the development of the IEP by providing appropriate goals and objectives for speech therapy services.
- To refer for medical or other professional attention necessary for the rehabilitation of speech or language impairments.
- To participate in Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings (SRDs) for initial speech referrals and / or identified speech impaired students at designated campuses.
- To provide speech and language services for the habilitation or prevention of communication impariments
- To provide counseling and guidance to parents, students and teachers regarding speech and language impairments.
- To participate as a member of transdisciplinary team in providing speech services (assessment, planning, IEP implementation, etc.).
- To document student’s progress through ongoing evaluation and to provide progress reports to parents, teachers and administrative staff as required.
- To provide information via parent sessions / conferences regarding communication disorders.
- To supervise licensed assistants and licensed interns as permitted by federal and state laws, rules and regulations that govern the practices of school speech-language pathology.
- To generate, utilize and maintain relevant speech therapy data necessary for the attainment of the special education department’s mission and overall improvement efforts.
- To comply with all laws, rules and policies related to the implementation of the speech therapy programs.
- To supervise all speech personnel in the provision of Medicaid reimbursable services
- To develop and implement a SHARS supervision plan for Medicaid reimbursement
- To perform other duties as requested by the special education director and / or building principal
