Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Human Genetics -Full TimeThe Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients.

The APRN is also examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals.

Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests.

Advises patients about continuing care.JOB FUNCTIONSPerforms and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.

Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.

Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalitiesImplements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.

Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.

Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.

Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.A medical care provider primarily to metabolic genetic patients (adults and children) using independent discretion and judgment.

Will also cover for other departmental nurse practitioners when they are out on leave and as needed (vacation, sick time, etc.

Providing care for long-term metabolic patients will include seeing patients in various clinic locations independently and / or with metabolic RDsManages clinical care for metabolic patients admitted to the hospital.

Will be the primary provider for the department’s ERT patientsPrescribing medications, works with appropriate staff to obtain prior authorization for medications / ERT, writing infusion orders for ERT, and helping to coordinate multidisciplinary care of these patients.

Provides cross and additional coverage to the NBS APRN, including responding to the State phone call and fax regarding a new positive newborn screen, calling the attending / resident on call, parents, and PCP and coordinating follow up confirmatory diagnosis, and seeing these patients in clinic as needed.

Is a member of the cross-coverage team for the JMH APRN which includes seeing new consults and follow-ups, ordering appropriate testing when patients are under this APRN’s care.

Other duties : All department APRNs are asked to assist with blood draws in clinic as needed.Focusing on Metabolic Genetics care - the Metabolic APRN will have the duty of Annual and / or Q2 year review of Emergency Letters text that are created to send to Metabolic disease diagnosis patients.

These letter templates will be updated with management recommendations, as well as surveillance protocols for common Inborn Errors of Metabolism.

Is a member of the on-call team for consults and NBS some nights and weekends. This includes carrying the consult or NBS cellphones in rotationThis list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.

CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation : Master’s degree in NursingCertification and Licensing : Valid State of Florida APRN License.

BLS certification from the American Heart Association.Credentialed to see patients of all ages.Experience : Minimum 2 years of relevant experienceKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes : Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to work independently and / or in a collaborative environment.Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Fluent Spanish or Creole speakers are preferred. & or willing to learn either languageDemonstrates quality of work including accuracy, timeliness, professionalism and thoroughness of work produced.

Consistently exhibit professional demeanor and appearance with internal and external customers through verbal and non-verbal customer focused communication.
