Summary of Essential Job Duties : Provides and documents direct and indirect patient care
services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients. Provides
care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures. Provides direct and
indirect patient care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and
therapeutic agents necessary to implement the treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative
plan of care. Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral
venous access. Observes signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications / treatments,
general behavior, and / or general physical condition. Assesses the signs, symptoms, reactions,
behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics. Plans
and implements care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and
care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when
indicated. Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural
backgrounds. Identifies patient’s readiness for learning and ability to follow
Directions / instructions and give consent. Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with
Respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and
Evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patients.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Assist and chaperone MDs and NPs with set-up exam rooms, procedures, ultrasounds, pelvic exams, and post procedure patient care.
Provide coverage for others in the care team including other RNs, LVNs, and Medical Assistants covering GYN Specialties divisions.
- Coordinating and participating in clinic flow efficiency. Multi-tasking; prioritizing tasks.
- Reviewing charts; making follow up calls to other providers for continuity of care. Coordinates all infertility treatments from beginning to end with patients, physicians, and ART staff.
- Coordinates all other aspects of patients’ care such as : diagnostic testing, referrals, telephoning prescriptions or refills with physician’s orders and retrieving ordered test results.
- Demonstrates extensive patient education face-to-face and over-the-phone regarding : program services offered, treatment details, patients’ plan-of-care, multi-steps, up-coming treatment details, lab result interpretation, injection teaching, different diagnostic testing preparations, and pre-and postoperative teaching.
- Perform OGTT
- Communicate thoroughly to physicians and patients about abnormal lab results and proper follow up.
- Daily follow up of ordered labs, especially those undergoing fertility treatments, and communicating to patients the appropriate treatment plan.
- Provides back-up coverage to support Minimally Invasive Surgery and Family Planning care including patient education, preop instructions, postop care instructions, and triage of patient CS Link Inbox messages and referral to physician as appropriate, including assisting the surgery schedulers with clinical support portions of per-certifications and HMO authorizations for surgeries and medications.
- Assist with surgery scheduling as back-up. Provide weekend support for Fertility on a rotational basis (approx. 1-2 weekend days or more depending upon the need per month including rotational holidays for Fertility Division coverage).
Perform other duties as required.
Educational Requirements :
- California State RN License required
- BCLS certified
- License / Certification / Registration Requirements : A valid California Vocational Nurse License.
- Current basic life support.
Experience : A minimum of 1-2 years experience in an acute care facility, an ambulatory clinic in
women's health preferred, and / or in a clinical environment related to GYN surgery preferred.
Must be detail-oriented, a team player and have the ability to multi-task. Must possess excellent
interpersonal skills and
customer service skills. Must be computer literate with ability use EMR.
Physical Demands : Walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling. Must observe universal
precautions and have working knowledge of blood borne pathogens. Must be able to perform
assigned duties.
