JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Music seeks a part-time lecturer to direct CSUSB’s Mariachi Los Coyotes (MUS 3834) beginning Fall semester 2024.
Mariachi Los Coyotes is a recently-established ensemble open to all CSUSB students (of any major) and community members who sing or play violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet, harp, guitar, vihuela, or guitarron.
The ensemble is also open to high-school students through CSUSB’s Open University Program.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
MUS 3834 Mariachi Los Coyotes typically rehearses once per week for 1 hour and 50 minutes, and performs a public recital each semester.
There is also the potential to teach or propose related courses (including independent supervision or general-education courses) in the future depending on the instructor’s and students’ interests and the department’s needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Music or the equivalent professional experience performing Mariachi music and directing a Mariachi ensemble.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold at minimum a Master’s degree and have prior experience engaging in Mariachi pedagogy.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. Note : CSUSB cannot deny an applicant a position solely or in part due to a criminal conviction history until it has performed an individualized assessment and linked the relevant conviction history with specific job duties in the position being sought.
