SUMMARY / SCOPE :

A Principal Faculty Member in the Physician AssistantProgram is primarily responsible for course instruction and / or coursecoordination in the didactic and clinical phases of the program.

A PrincipalFaculty member will be effective in the areas of course design, coursedelivery, and evaluation. The Principal Faculty Instructor is instrumental inassisting the program and its students with meeting the program's StudentLearning Outcomes and actively participate in student remediation.

ThePrincipal Faculty Instructor is guided by the Program Director in assisting theprogram with curriculum assessment and meeting the ARC-PA Standards ofAccreditation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Teachessubjects within prescribed curriculum.

Prepares and delivers lectures tostudents.

Compiles bibliographies of specializedmaterials for outside reading assignments.

Stimulates class discussions.

Compiles, administers, and gradesexaminations, or assigns this work to others.

Directs research of other teachers orgraduate students working for advanced academic degrees.

Conducts research in particular field ofknowledge and publishes findings in professional journals.

Performs related duties such as advisingstudents on academic and vocational curricula and acting as adviser to studentorganizations.

Serves on faculty committees

Supervisionof Physician Assistant students on clinical rotations.

Additionalresponsibilities include, but are not limited to, mentoring, studentadvisement, recruiting, service to the university and community, andparticipating in departmental program assessment.

Professorsare required to maintain regularly scheduled office hours for studentaccessibility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills) :

LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complexdocuments. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries orcomplaints.

Ability to write speechesand articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasivespeeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to topmanagement, public groups, and / or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to work with mathematical concepts suchas probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solidgeometry and trigonometry.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY : Abilityto apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range ofintellectual and practical problems.

Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism(formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its mostdifficult phases.

Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concretevariables.

COMPUTER SKILLS : Toperform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of WordProcessing software; Spreadsheet software;

Project Management software; Payrollsystems and Internet software.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

Master’sDegree Required, Doctorate degree preferred.

AdditionalPreferred skills :

Priorteaching in a Physician Assistant Program

Recentclinical practice experience caring for patients.

Activemembership in related professional organizations.

Evidenceof teaching excellence and interpersonal communication skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

Theincumbent will possess the following required qualifications :

Graduateof an accredited Physician Assistant Program or Medical School

Currentlicensure in the State of Texas (or ability to obtain license)

NCCPAcertified / emeritus status or Board-Certified Physician
