Responsibilities
- Provides care to pediatric patients in alignment with USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital policies; carries out treatment plan in collaboration with multidisciplinary ED team;
- maintains clear communication with attending physician, ED nursing and other members of healthcare team; assists with licensed RN in care delivery by taking vital signs, reporting deviation from normal to RN, assisting with triage with quick registration and routine patient care, assisting with ID now and point of care testing, performing EKGs in ED, performing venipuncture and insertion of IV's, serves as member of USA Health Children's & Women's code and Rapid Response Team, and collecting routine lab specimens (rapid strep and urine analysis);
- assists with the admissions process; transports patients to radiology inpatient unit as needed; serves as a driver for the Pediatric Neonatal Transport Team;
- promotes patient safety and family centered approach to patient care; assists with maintaining a well-stocked orderly environment with triage and treatment area;
- assists with covering the fast track areas as directed by RN; assists with monitoring behavior of mental health patient as needed;
- assists physician staff with medical procedures as needed, casting, splinting, suturing, etc.; regular and prompt attendance;
ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, graduate of an EMT-Paramedic course, licensed as a paramedic in the state of Alabama and one year of paramedic experience.
Current ACLS / BLS certification required.
Possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama may be required for some positions.
