About The Position
Job Title : Registered Nurse (RN) Job Specialty : Medical Surgical Job Duration : 20 weeks Shift : 12-Hour Nights Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours per week Experience : Minimum 2 years of MedSurg experience required License : Valid RN license required Certifications : BLS, EKG certification required Must-Have : - EPIC experience- Ability to read and interpret tele- Willingness to take students and possibly precept new travelers Job Description : Work in a 42-bed Medical Surgical Unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1 : 5, occasionally 1 : 6.
- Care for patients with common diagnoses such as total joints, ortho-hip fractures, spine surgeries (lumbar and cervical), urology procedures, general surgeries, GYN overflow, medical overflow (COPD, infections), and some behavioral health.
- No requirement to titrate drips; common drips include heparin, PCA, and morphine drips.- Work under a Charge Nurse who manages each shift;
may take patients if needed.- Collaborate with nurse aides / patient care techs with a ratio of 1 : 8.- Utilize RT equipment like CPAP, BiPAP, and manage high-flow situations.
Responsible for reading and interpreting own monitor strips; department transitioning from SpaceLab to Philips.- Schedule includes 12-hour shifts (7 am to 7 : 30 pm);
no block scheduling.- Weekend Requirement : Five weekend shifts within a six-week period.- Holiday Requirement : Yes, if needed.
- Floating Requirements : Potential to float between MedSurg floors and overflow units, and possibly to like units in neighboring medical centers or to assist in the ER.
- Dress Code : Any color scrubs are permitted as long as they are clean and professional.- Orientation includes three days of general training, including EPIC and online modules.
Two shifts on the unit with a preceptor are provided.- Candidates must live beyond a specified radius for eligibility. A background check on the candidate's permanent address will be conducted.
