Job summary
The Patient Safety Manager will play a key role in the Quality team to monitor general quality and service delivery, patient safety and safeguarding regulations for service providers commissioned by Northamptonshire ICB, and proactively support service development.
This role will be focused on providing Quality assurance in line with the National Quality Board Standards where patient safety remains central to service delivery.
This role will focus on the safety of services across Northamptonshire which may include Acute Provider Trusts, Nursing and Residential Homes, Independent Providers and Primary care.
Main duties of the job
As Patient Safety Manager, you will :
- Support the Patient Safety Specialist and Quality Assurance and Improvement Lead to develop and monitor the patient safety agenda on behalf of Northamptonshire ICB. by :
- Management and monitoring of PSII investigations.
- Collation of patient safety data including LFPSE.
- Development and implementation of a monitoring framework for measuring and reporting on the quality of patient safety within commissioned services.
- Act as the central point of contact, reporting all PSII to the SHA on behalf of independent providers.
- Monitor the reporting and progress of ongoing PSII investigations and action plan implementation for commissioned services, including individual practitioners.
- Ensuring timely reporting in line with National guidance through LFPSE.
- Develop, maintain, and implement a monitoring framework and system of review for PSIIs.
- Work with members of the team to ensure that cluster policies are maintained in line with National policy and guidance.
- Support the Patient Safety Specialist and Quality Assurance and Improvement Lead in the provision of PSIRF training.
- Prepare regular monitoring and data reports in conjunction with other members of the team as required for use within the department, NHS Milton Keynes & Northamptonshire and for other services.
- Identify themes, trends, including analysis for learning.

Job responsibilities
- Use clinical knowledge and experience to review evidence submitted by providers in respect of compliance with quality schedule in the NHS contract.
- Support the production of provider assurance report to the System Quality Governance Meeting & Quality Committee with support from the Quality Team Leader.
- Plan and organise learning events with relevant providers and external agencies to share learning.
- Maintain awareness of CQC standards and significant publications particularly in relation to Single Assessment Framework.
- Support service providers and whole systems to debrief and reflect on episodes of care and put into place improvement plans, to be delivered, establishing a culture of teamwork and cooperation and a climate of support that still holds people to account.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders including care sector managers.
- Maintain effective key relationships with colleagues both internal and external to ICB.
- Carry out all duties to the highest possible standard. To receive regular management supervision, annual appraisal, and a personal development plan from the Patient Safety Specialist and Quality Assurance and Improvement Lead Head of Quality Improvement.
- Act as a leader for change management, service improvement and quality assurance; supporting Registered Managers to demonstrate high quality care through the measurement of outcomes and peoples experience.
- Undertake data collection and review the information received to ensure that it is complete, liaising with service managers as appropriate.

- Work with other members of the team to ensure there are appropriate systems in place for the monitoring of commissioned services.
- Manage and take responsibility for a broad portfolio of patient safety projects.
- Act as a resource to staff providing advice on all aspects of patient safety.
- Work with stakeholders to review and identify gaps in knowledge with regards to patient safety to enhance knowledge and understanding.
- Support the Quality & Safety Team in the investigation of PSIIS Is as necessary including attending visits, arranging meetings, taking minutes, report collation etc.
