Job Summary :
We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Redwood Empire Addiction Program (REAP), an outpatient substance abuse treatment clinic.
As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, working closely with our team to provide high-quality care to patients struggling with substance use disorder.
Your responsibilities will include supporting patient intake and orientation, scheduling, taking vitals, phlebotomy, communicating / coordinating with staff and clients, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Your skills and expertise will help us deliver comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients.
Responsibilities :
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of medication inventory and patient documentation.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and staff to coordinate patient care.
- Maintain current certification and complete required continuing education units (CEUs).
- Assist with intake and orientation processes for new patients.
- Prepare patients for exams and procedures, including vital sign collection and medical history documentation.
- Conduct urine drug screens and rapid tests.
- Provide education and support to patients on medication adherence and side effects.
- Facilitate communication between clients and staff.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment.
- Adhere to confidentiality (CFR 42-2) and HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Medical Director and Program Director.
Qualifications and Requirements :
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA).
- High School Diploma, or equivalent.
- CPR Certified AED Certification.
- One year of experience in a substance abuse treatment setting (preferred).
- Phlebotomy experience is required (at least 6 months).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patients' medical and personal information.
- Respond to emergencies and initiate action as required.
- Observation, documentation, and record-keeping of client’s health status.
- Skilled in time management and crisis intervention.
- Follows HIPAA standards (CFR 42-2) / laws in all aspects of their duties.
- Observes client self-administer medications as prescribed.
- Adheres to medication management policies and procedures.
- Notify the Deputy Medical Director, Program Director, and / or Supervisor of any changes in client behavior and / or condition,
- Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data.
- Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and reliability are required,
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Strong problem-solving and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of interdisciplinary team and independently assume responsibility.
- Proficient knowledge of substance use disorders and psychological disorders (preferred).
- Other duties assigned.
Working Conditions :
- Work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods.
- Ability to work morning shifts.
