Job description
The primary responsibility of an equipment inspector is to check equipment for any needed or overdue maintenance, damage and perform troubleshooting.
If the damage is beyond their capability, they arrange to transport the damaged equipment to reliable repair shops and report it to persons concerned.
If the maintenance is needed or overdue, they arrange for it to be completed. They also monitor and ensure that staff is following safety protocols while working.
They manage systemic and scheduled troubleshooting to improve performance and decrease repair expenses. They are reliable when it comes to safety standards and ensuring precautions are followed and applied.
Duties include initial inspections, completing equipment condition reports, damage inspection, performing basic maintenance tasks, and testing the safety and operational capabilities of all owner equipment located across Virginia.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver's license and satisfactory driving record always required
- Knowledgeable in the operation, maintenance, and basic repair of paving, milling, earthmoving, and general equipment
- Ability to perform visual and physical inspection of our owned equipment
- Must be extremely safety conscious with the willingness to help in other areas of the shop, yard and offsite when required
- Capable of lifting 40 pounds with ability to assist with loading / unloading of equipment from trailers
- Attention to detail with a great attitude
- Ability to perform tasks independently without direct supervision
- Willingness to help in other areas of the shop and yard where required
- Able to assist with loading / unloading of equipment from trailers
- Ability to perform and document inspections using applications such as Cat Inspect
- Capable to work with equipment management modules and to help manage cost on equipment
- Have knowledge of, or capability to learn, mechanical assemblies and mechanical work processes utilized in the rebuild, repair, modification, and utilization of heavy mobile equipment
- Have knowledge of the electrical, hydraulics, engine, motor, metal, and body assemblies
Duties
- Inspectors are responsible for the inspection of various heavy equipment product lines. Duties include initial inspection, collect hour meter readings, completing equipment condition reports, damage inspection, performing basic maintenance tasks, and testing the safety and operational capabilities of all company owned equipment
- Willing and capable to perform final mechanical inspections, tests, and witnesses tests performed on a variety of construction vehicles
- Check and inspect equipment and / or equipment components to ensure they meet construction project requirements
- Check mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies for alignment and proper functioning
- Test and check electrical assemblies and wiring for proper connections
- Conduct visual, dimensional, static measurements, over-the-road, pressure test, load lifting and other operational tests
- Perform minor adjustments and repair
