SUMMARY
Family Service League is seeking a per-diem Advocate for a homeless shelter in Brentwood. The Advocate will report to the Supervisor and be responsible for conducting client assessments, linking clients with community-based service resources, assisting clients in achieving self-sufficiency through advocacy, assisting with resource referrals, and assisting clients with various tasks in the shelter.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete intake consent forms with clients’.
- Enforce rules, regulations and policies of shelter.
- Ensure that new intakes clothing is ran through heaters.
- Provide clients with pantry as needed.
- Perform curfew check.
- Provide transportation as needed.
- Advocate for client needs.
- Address any issues of safety in the unit & remove any dangerous items.
- Promote onsite services to clients.
- Provide crisis intervention.
- Set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients; observe client confidentiality and HIPPA protocols.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Collaborate with Security to discuss and resolve client incidents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Each employee is responsible to read and understand the Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Each employee is responsible to arrive at their workplace on time and ready to work. Any changes to one’s schedule are to receive prior supervisor approval.
- Personal cell phones are to be used for emergency only during work hours and in a private area away from staff and clients.
- Each employee is expected to read their email daily.
- Purchases on behalf of the shelter require prior approval of the Program Director. Personal spending will not be reimbursed without prior approval.
- All other duties as assigned.
Q UALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Some experience working with children and / or families required.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills required.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word is required.
Valid and clean New York State Driver's License required.
Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, overnight, or weekends required.
Flexibility to work at different sites is preferred.
