DRMP's Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) Division is HIRING , and we're searching for Transportation Technicians / CEI Inspectors (all levels) to join our group around the Richmond area.
While you'll be assigned to a home office, most of these positions will report directly to the field / project.
The Transportation Technician / CEI Inspector is responsible for performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.
Hands-on Training and Mentoring are provided to assist with career development.
Your Primary Responsibilities will include
- Familiarity with the DOT Standard Specifications, Standard Drawings, and Construction Manual; Able to provide on-site contract compliance inspection for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects, schedule / budget monitoring, and quality assurance for projects.
- Communicate with the project manager daily. *Must be able to have effective communication skills with supervisors, DOT, and contractors.
- Ensure construction is completed according to the contract specifications; This includes monitoring each phase of work.
- Must be able to use tools of the trades assigned.
- Must obtain measurements and report progress information (note information on Daily Diaries).
- Perform on-site testing (as needed) : soils, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, etc.
- Understand the inspection requirements per the project / construction method.
- Responsible for driving a company vehicle to and from as well as on the client project.
- Identify potential issues; report issues to the contractor and project engineer.
- Provide progress report to project engineer and supervisor.
- Perform specific quality system tasks as defined in the quality manual.
- Check stormwater management practices and erosion / sediment controls to ensure they are in compliance.
- Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and other orders and to all company policies, procedures, and directives from supervisors.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
- Be self-motivated to meet individual goals and maintain accountability in a team environment.
KSA’s
- Receives general instructions regarding assignments and is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the solution of work problems.
- Assists Senior Inspectors and / or Project Manager with completion of specific tasks and assists in all phases of the construction project.
- Responsible for preparing backup documentation for progress and final estimates throughout the construction project duration.
What you'll need
- High School graduate with transportation construction training / experience in bridge and / or roadway construction; Or coursework in civil engineering, project management, or materials.
- OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Working knowledge of basic mathematics (linear and cubic measurements; Computations related to algebra, geometry, and trigonometry based on field measurements).
- Computer knowledge with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Utilize these skills to resolve issues in the field or communicate with co-workers, clients, etc.
Learn and apply new information and concepts.
- Must be able to use tools of the trades assigned with knowledge of materials and methods used in specific projects.
- Certification(s) from at least one or more of the following : Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) or Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VADEQ) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Must be able to follow and carry out specific instructions on an independent basis
- Must be able to interpret and implement company-mandated safety policies.
- Must understand construction surveying procedures and principles.
- Safety : Apply safety protocol in all cases; Will be in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Valid driver’s license with approved / acceptable driving history required.
- Position requires a minimum of 40 hours a week with the possibility of overtime (Hourly).
