Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Head Men’s Basketball Coach provides leadership for the development and supervision of MBI’s Men’s Basketball Program while adhering to MBI’s and NCCAA policies and guidelines.
A servant-leader with the desire and plan to develop and equip the Men’s Volleyball Program and its student athletes. Will work closely with the athletic director to accomplish the vision and mission of MBI Athletic.
Essential Functions

- Represent Jesus Christ, MBI, and Moody Athletics when working and relating to others and foster a team atmosphere of community and encouragement.
- Develop a program roster that reflects a Christ-centered mindset and identity through team devotionals and community outreach.
- Create a plan that helps the student athlete improve in their sport but also assists them spiritually, academically, relationally, and emotionally.
- Hire, lead, and mentor MBB assistant coach.
- Lead and organize team practices and training in-season and off-season.
- Consistently seek to progress in the knowledge of your sport along with training concepts that can help keep the student athlete healthy and hopefully injury free.
- Keep open communication with student athletes throughout the year.
- Active Recruitment of potential student athletes that are believers in Christ and interested in a MBI degree program. Working alongside MBI’s admissions dept.
- Schedule home and away matches along with planning and organizing away matches (transportation, meals, hotels, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with MBI and NCCAA guidelines.
- Manage and make purchases for program uniforms, practice gear, equipment, supplies, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree.
- High level of basketball knowledge with playing or coaching experience.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- A valid driver’s license and responsible driving record.
- Able and qualified to drive a 14-passenger bus.
- Knowledge of basic Microsoft, Google, and Social Media platforms.
- Certified or becomes certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- Able to work in the US legally, without sponsorship.
- Physical ability to lead MBB practices and training.
- Enjoys working with college students.
- Able to work in the US legally without sponsorship.
Preferred Requirements
- Over two years of basketball coaching experience.
- Leadership experience.
- Familiar with the vision and history of Moody Bible Institute.
- Have been a part of or have organized basketball camps or clinics.
- Self-motivated and creative.
- Ministry experience.

- This part-time role is paid through a stipend and works over a four-month period with off-season communication with team and recruits.
- The job operates primarily in a professional office environment located in MBI’s athletic facility.
- Basketball practice and conditioning will take place in gymnasium and fitness areas in the facility.
- Will work closely with MBI athletic student staff, athletic trainer, and athletic director.
- Driving and traveling to matches with some involving an overnight stay.
