THE POSITION
Drive your career forward! The Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver License Examiner to conduct standardized knowledge and skills examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of non-commercial and Commercial Driver License (CDL) applicants.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
You will be responsible for conducting standardized on-road assessments to evaluate the skills and competencies of applicants seeking both Non-Commercial Driver Licenses and Commercial Driver Licenses, ensuring that these evaluations are carried out in a safe and courteous manner.
It is essential to assess the physical condition and driving qualifications of each applicant, as well as to inspect the mechanical condition of the vehicles in accordance with established guidelines and standards.
Prior to administering driving tests, you will perform thorough pre-trip inspections of the vehicles, checking for essential safety features such as inspection stickers, lights, windshield wipers, and other mechanical components to ensure both safety and the applicant's familiarity with the vehicle controls.
Additionally, you will review applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or potential fraud.
You will also administer knowledge examinations for both CDL and Non-CDL applicants, assessing their understanding of the motor vehicle code and traffic signs, while evaluating their practical driving skills and adherence to road rules.
Upon request from the Driver License Division Management Team, you may conduct audits of Third Party Examiners to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, which may involve either having the Third Party Examiner administer a CDL skills test to a Department Examiner or scoring alongside them during the testing process.
Furthermore, you will administer various vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments, while strictly adhering to all elements of the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy.
Work Schedule and Additional Information :
- Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
- Work hours are 8 : 15 am to 4 : 45 pm, Tuesday - Saturday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements :
- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (commonwealth title); or
- Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements :
All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License
or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the
five year period immediately preceding employment.
All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an
active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment
or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
Possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements : P and N.
The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions : E, L, N, O, or Z.

This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.
