As the Director of Development & Communications, you will be the front-line fundraiser responsible for developing strategies and leading all resource development lines of business, including Corporate Relations, Major Gifts, Donor Relations, sponsorship, and fundraising events, while consistently maintaining superior donor relationships and increasing revenue.

Developing and implementing marketing and communication plans and strategies, including public relations, media relations, online giving, digital communications, key messaging, and storytelling, to raise awareness of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Setting goals and planning and executing strategies to meet those goals in the areas of :

Major donors

Workplace giving (combined funds, matching)

Corporate sponsorships

Board giving

In-kind gifts and donated services

Oversight of special events

Major donor stewardship events

Set goals and plan and execute strategies around long-range support through planned giving and other deferred or long-term gifts

Develop print and electronic materials to support the annual goals, including solicitation letters, major donor packets, informative / stewardship-oriented publications, event invitations, grants / proposals for small family foundations, etc.

in coordination with the Marketing and Digital Media Manager, and Events Manager and outside contractors). Review and approve all development-related materials developed by others.

Lead the long-term development of relationships with donors, emphasizing donor stewardship and facilitating board engagement with this work.

Lead the development of themes, goals, and strategies around the Annual Meeting.

Oversee the execution of those plans and strategies.

Conduct targeted written and in-person asks related to major donor giving, corporate sponsorships, planned giving, etc.

Inspire, motivate, and oversee the efforts of Board members, volunteers, and other staff involved in the work of fund development

Lead the selection, procurement, and management of hardware, software, and other electronic resources related to fund development

Lead the development of, review, approve, and manage all contracts related to fund development, including event facilities, caterers, professional staff and other contract workers, etc.,

Develop and manage annual budgets related to Fund Development and affiliated revenue.

Analyze donor-giving trends and make appropriate changes to the plan as needed.

Act as the Staff liaison to the future Board Fundraising committee

Create and monitor the Development and Events budgets.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

7+ years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising, including at least 2 years of experience managing grants is required (federal contract management is ideal)

Experiencing leveraging and analyzing donor data to raise funds more effectively and familiarity with Little Green Light.

Knowledge of the local nonprofit sector

Experience directly supervising others and / or leading teams of volunteers, interns, etc.

Write compelling and concise grant applications, reports, and plans; be able to organize and synthesize complex ideas into understandable summaries

Fundamentals of strategic planning, nonprofit budgeting, program coordination, project management, fundraising, marketing, volunteer management and board governance

Ability to build strong and authentic relationships with peers, donors, funders, and community members; Relate to stakeholders professionally and dynamically

Willingness to take initiative and lead major projects, incorporating broad teams of stakeholders

Aptitude for balancing strategic thinking and attention to detail

Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines across multiple departments

Lead teams of people and inspire supervisees to achieve their goals

Resolve conflicts in a productive and respectful way

Work with tight deadlines, high pressure and high stress environments, and sensitive or confidential topics

Remain calm and clear-minded in spite of large workloads and multiple pressures

Work both independently and as a team

A driver’s license-some driving will be required for events

A strong track record of :

Securing major gifts of $100,000 or more

Building and expanding a base of donor support

Not required but highly desired for this position :

Experience working with diverse, vulnerable communities

Current or previous small business ownership

Experience in microenterprise development, small business development, asset building, financial empowerment, or related industry

Written and verbal Spanish language skills is a bonus

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a supervisor of one or more positions, responsibilities include :

Ensuring the employee has a complete and accurate job description (set at the time of hire or promotion, when conditions change significantly, or when reviewed annually as part of the employee’s performance review)

Ensuring proper record keeping for human resources, including offer letters, timesheets, position change forms, leave requests, and new staff forms.

Interviewing, selecting, hiring, and onboarding staff into vacant positions

Monitoring supervisee morale and making efforts to facilitate a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie

Communicating performance expectations such as procedures, work schedule, etc., not detailed in the job description

Working with the employee to set annual goals, professional development, etc.

Ongoing monitoring of workload, progress on goals, etc.

Providing scheduled verbal and written performance reviews as specified in the employment policies and addressing any immediate performance issues as they arise

Identifying conflicts that involve your supervisees and mediating with other supervisors or staff members to solve conflicts promptly.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS :

Starting Salary / Rate : $80,000-$95,000

Schedule : Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Location : The 2100 Building - 2100 24th Avenue South, Suite 380, Seattle, WA 98144, Ventures requires employees to come into the office 3 days per week.
