Global Health and Population Position Description The Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Maternal Health and Demography.

We seek an innovative scholar to make significant contributions in the areas of maternal health and demographic methods in a diverse, multidisciplinary department with a long history of excellence in education and research.

Candidates should demonstrate significant research and teaching activity at and around the intersection of reproductive health, maternal health, adolescent health, fertility, population health, the impact of sex and gender on health, and social determinants of health, particularly the impact of racial and ethnic disparities on maternal health.

Candidates should also demonstrate an interest in examining these areas globally through a life cycle approach. The ability to teach effectively in the areas of maternal health and demography, to advise and mentor a diverse group of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and to contribute to collaborative research, service, and teaching related to maternal health and demography is also a priority.

The Department and School will look to the successful candidate to expand and develop maternal health within the population health sciences.

The 21st century has arrived with a complex set of demographic patterns, disease burdens, and health policies. These create challenges that affect all societies, rich and poor, developed and developing.

The Department’s approach to these problems combines the analysis of population and health using quantitative and qualitative methods, the study of policies that affect health, and a concern with the politics and ethics of health and development.

  • Health Equity and Human Rights
  • Health Policy Prevention
