The Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician will provide highly specialized patient care on a consultative basis and pertaining to sports medicine to students at the Ashe Center predominantly in-person but also including some telehealth work.
This position will perform medical procedures / services in the office, including landmark-based procedures, ultrasound guided musculoskeletal procedures, as well as providing pre- and post-procedure care.
Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate with other specialists and all members of the Ashe clinical care team to provide highest quality, accessible, and cost-effective care to UCLA students and club sport athletes.
The Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician will also provide training and education to primary care clinicians, medical staff, and medical trainees.
Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications
- 3 years Experience working as a primary care sports medicine physician in an outpatient, urgent care and / or emergency department setting. (Preferred) And
- 3 years Experience in office-based musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic and procedural purposes. (Preferred)
- Knowledge of disease, prevention, and health promotion needs of late adolescents and adults, as they relate to preventing, diagnosing and treating injuries related to participation in sports and / or exercise. (Required)
- Knowledge and experience in treating conditions that may have effects on health and physical performance. (Required)
- Knowledge of legal and professional requirements for quality patient care. (Required)
- Skill in interviewing needed to understand the medical and psycho-social needs of patients. (Required)
- Skill in oral communication needed to accurately convey information to patients and other co-workers. (Required)
- Skill in counseling needed to help patients deal with acute and chronic medical problems. (Required)
- Ability to work and communicate professionally with a diverse clientele. (Required)
- Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required)
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing work when faced with competing deadlines, and interruptions. (Required)
- Ability to use electronic medical record software, and / or ability to oversee a scribe who is using the electronic medical record. (Required)
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately. (Required)
- General knowledge of student health policies and procedures. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree or recognized equivalent. (Required) And
- Other Type of Degree Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship : Completion of an accredited primary care sports medicine fellowship. (Required) And
- Other Type of Degree Primary Care Residency Training : Completion of residency training in primary care. (Required)
- Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a medical doctor or doctor of osteopathy, as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Prior to hire and maintained during employment. (Required) And
- Primary care board certification. Prior to hire and maintained during employment. (Required) And
- Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine. Prior to hire and maintained during employment. (Required) And
- California medical license. Prior to hire and maintained during employment. (Required) And
- Current DEA registration number. Prior to hire and maintained during employment. (Required) And
- Basic CPR certification. During first 3 months of employment and maintained during employment. (Required)
Special Conditions for Employment
- Background Check : Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
- Live Scan Background Check : A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
- Age Requirement : Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
- Pre-Placement Physical : Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.
- TB Test : Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.
- CANRA : The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA . The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
