Travel Possible The Aircraft Mechanic III - Low Observables will primarily perform all scheduled and unscheduled aircraftand equipment maintenance, both on and off equipment, on assigned aircraft and equipment in accordancewith the Performance Work Statement (PWS), M1 policy, DAFI 21-101(and supplements), as well as industrystandards.
Responsibilities may include : * Maintains repairs / modifies aircraft structures and structural components and engines of complex toextreme difficulty.
- Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines,hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
- Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipmentmalfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.
- Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpretingtechnical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals.
- Position typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical componenttroubleshooting / repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraftsheet metal / structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
- Position is required to have a detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment,torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
- Will perform aircraft and equipment maintenance on other assigned MDS aircraft in a highly "cross-utilization / trained" environment.
- Will be required to perform at a moderate level of competency in one or more of the following areas : repair and reclamation, egress, electro / environmental, avionics, wheel & tire, sheet metal, compositerepair, propulsion, fuels, AGE, armament, munitions, non-destructive inspection (NDI), andpneudraulics.
- Maintains aircraft and support equipment forms records IAW AF procedures utilizing AF InformationSystems and forms as required.
- Performs transient aircraft support, CDDAR team chief, Phase dock, QA augmentation, Wheel & Tireduties.Qualifications and Experience : * Minimum of 8 years performing as a Low Observables technician in a military environment andattainment of an US Air Force 7 level (or equivalent) is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain any Special Access Program (SAP) requirements to perform inthis position. Working knowledge of MIS systems, forms documentation and strict adherence toaircraft technical data is required.
- Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to deal with stressful situations and timelines whilemaintaining a professional and non-confrontational attitude.
- Shall assist other personnel and work centers as directed, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to make entries in aircraft logs and records and is responsible for providing guidance andtechnical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and / ormaintenance effort.
- The incumbent must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support tostructural / mechanical engineers and customers alike.
- The incumbent must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraftdelivery schedule.
- Will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may berequired to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Working knowledge of principles applying to aircraft systems, concepts and applications ofmaintenance directives, data reporting, and using technical data is mandatory.
- Knowledge of Air Force supply and efficiency reporting procedures is mandatory.
- Knowledge of the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials is mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain / maintain the security clearance level as mandated by the governmentcustomer.
- Maintains qualifications contained on the Special Certification Roster (SCR) as directed.* Must possess a current valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
- High school diploma or GED is required.Working Conditions : * Position requires complying with unique commuting / travel requirements.
- Will work in aircraft hangars and outside on aircraft ramps within close proximity of runningequipment and aircraft.
- Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, or overtime shifts as required.* May work outdoors, sometimes in hot or cold weather.
- May be exposed to contaminants.
- May be exposed to hazardous conditions, such as when standing on scaffolding or climbing ladders* Will be exposed to loud and persistent noise* Will be required to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as : safety toe footwear, safetyglasses, etc.
