About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse (RN) Job Specialty : GI Surgery Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Day shift Guaranteed Hours : 36 hours per week Experience : Minimum of one year of nursing experience License : Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC) Must-Have : ADN or ASN from an accredited school of Nursing Job Description : - Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards.

  • Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. - Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.
  • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. - Uses patient education materials relevant to patient population.
  • Assesses readiness to learn of the patient / family / caregivers and developmental level of patient. - Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance in revising plans of care.
  • Participates in evaluation of patient care with the interdisciplinary team. - Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including population-appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required for the patient care plan. - Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient / family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources for patients with complex care issues. - With assistance, develops goals to promote professional growth.
  • Achieves goals and participates in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. - Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. - Collaborates with patient / family to prepare or update the plan of care.
  • Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care. - Reads journals containing studies or articles applicable to practice and brings ideas and questions to the staff.

The nursing unit provides evidence-based and high-quality care to adult post-surgical patients with weight loss issues, gastrointestinal cancers, and complex non-cancer GI-related illnesses.

Responsibilities include managing patients requiring close post-operative observation, cardiac telemetry, aggressive mobilization, pulmonary hygiene, physical therapies, IV and central line / PICC line care, administration of TPN, anticoagulation, oxygen therapy, pain management, blood product administration, intake / output, and ostomy care.

Additionally, attention to complex wound management and multimodal nutritional support is vital throughout the course of hospitalization.
