VCU Athletics is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Men's Tennis Coach to lead and develop a nationally competitive Division l men's tennis program.
Summary :
The Head Men's Tennis Coach is responsible for the direction and development of nationally competitive Division I men's tennis program.
Reporting to the Associate AD for Sports Operations and supervising the Assistant Men's Tennis Coach, the Head Coach will oversee the recruitment and training of all student-athletes to prepare them for competition in local, regional and national arenas.
The Head Coach will also oversee the academic progress of all student-athletes. All duties are performed in support of VCU Athletics' mission to win conference and national championships, provide a first-class student-athlete experience, serve as a source of pride for the University and community and cultivate graduates who excel as leaders.
Typical Duties
Coaching
- Oversee coaching & training of student-athletes at the NCAA Division l level to prepare them for competition in local, regional and national arenas;
- Manage scheduling of all matches for the men's tennis team;
- Secure travel arrangements involved with recruitment, matches, and tournament or manage staff to do the same; and,
- Monitor the retention and academic progress of student-athletes.
Recruiting / Evaluating Prospective Student-Athletes
- Successful evaluation and recruitment of academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes;
- Train and manage staff to do the same; and
- Maintain accurate files of current and prospective student-athletes.
Administrative Tasks
- Be aware of and remain in compliance with NCAA, A10, State and University regulations regarding NCAA Division l Men's Tennis;
- Maintain required NCAA, A10, State and University paperwork;
- Maintain responsibility for the fiscal and budgetary functions associated with the Men's Tennis program or manage staff to do the same; and
- Promote execution of the Athletic Department's strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values and acting upon it's goals and strategies.
Management / Supervision
Supervise the conduct of assistance coach, and their activities, including compliance with NCAA rules, and provide annual and mid-year evaluations
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
Previous head coaching experience; and
Former student-athlete experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree;
- Three (3) years' experience as an NCAA Division I men's tennis coach;
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as staff member at VCU;
Knowledge and experience with NCAA Division I rules and regulations; and

Must have First Aid, CPR and AED certifications or achieve certifications within 30 days of hire
