We have a Direct Hire opening for an Electrical Controls / Programming Technician in Watsonville at a beverage company.
In this role, troubleshoot and program electrical controls like PLCs, VFDs, and HMIs, repair electrical and electronic systems, and mentor less experienced mechanics in electrical maintenance tasks.

Be available to work various shifts when required by the company :
Examples of possible shifts include
- 1st shift : 8 am-4 pm; Mon-Fri with some weekends when requested
- 2nd shift : 12 pm-8 pm; Mon-Fri with some weekends when requested
- 3rd shift : 4 pm-12 am; Mon-Fri with some weekends when requested
Job Duties of the Electrical Controls / Programming Technician :
- Design PLC systems that automate plant systems / equipment
- Implement program changes and additions to PLCs systems and Operator Controls
- Ensure HMIs are programmed to be user friendly with display information that allows operators to control and monitor industrial processes
- Program VFDs to improve the energy efficiency of electric motors, to control the motor speed, and the performance of motor-driven equipment
- Program PLCs by setting up the control logic and sequences for automation tasks
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electronic equipment and instrumentation
- Communicate with production staff about the condition of the equipment and its effectiveness
- Resolve complex issues in equipment’s mechanical and software systems
- Handle various electrical tasks, including conduit layout, wiring, and circuit troubleshooting
- Layout, form, and run electrical conduit (rigid, emt, and pvc)
- Identify, pull, and terminate wiring of all sizes
- Wire in and set up soft start units
- Troubleshoot AC motors and circuits such as 110v, 240v, 480v
- Troubleshoot low voltage DC motors and circuits such as 6v, 12v, 24v, 36v, 48v, and 90v
- Troubleshoot electrical alarm systems like security sensors, fire alarm, and ammonia detecting devices
- Familiarity with AutoCAD
- Ensure the wiring schematics in the system are up-to-date
Job Requirements of the Electrical Controls / Programming Technician :
- Have 2 years of experience as an Industrial Electrician, preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing environment working with these systems
- Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out procedures, machinery operation, Allen Bradley PLCs, communication protocols, and electrical systems
- Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic actuators, steam boilers, and ammonia / freon chilling systems
- Have basic welding skills for equipment mounting is preferred
- Keep accurate records of hardware settings and software for plant control equipment
