Characteristics of Work

This is administrative work in which the incumbent serves as Executive Director for the Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists.

Work involves formulating, directing and controlling the operations of subordinate personnel. Incumbent works with the Board in establishing objectives, standards, and control measures for programs.

Internal and external contacts are made to provide and exchange information, coordinate activities and provide assistance and guidance.

Work is subject to review through conferences and reports to the Board to whom the incumbent reports.

Performs all functions and exercises full authority necessary in administering the operations of the Board with direction from the Board of Directors.

Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Board.

Formulates policies, rules and regulations as necessary.

Ensures coordination of activities of the Board.

Directs fiscal accounting and budgeting activities.

Approves budget requests and expenditures.

Gives administrative leadership to all phases of program.

Maintains effective public relations with other state agencies and the public, including interpretation and advocacy of Board policy.

Recommends appointment / termination of personnel as needed.

Commits resources to projects with prior Board approval.

Related or similar duties are performed as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's Degree from an accredited graduate school and six (6) years of special experience defined below, two (2) years of which must have been in line or functional administrative supervision;

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and seven (7) years of special experience defined below, two (2) years of which must have been in line or functional administrative supervision.

Special Experience

Employment must have been in an administrative, professional capacity in an area of work related to the functional responsibility of the Board.

Where registered specialists provide the primary source of functional and technical knowledge for planning and accomplishing the mission of the Board.

The incumbent may also be required to be registered and experienced in that profession. Work experience must have included supervising and coordinating a variety of functions.

The policy coverage is two times the employee’s annual salary to a maximum of $100,000. More detail can be found at . Optional Insurances Many agencies offer discounted premiums for dental, vision, and cancer insurance.

Flexible Spending Accounts Many state agencies provide opportunity for employees to participate in pre-tax spending accounts.

These accounts allow employees to withhold childcare expenses and unreimbursed medical expenses prior to application of state and federal taxes.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued.

Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually. Military Leave In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.

Holidays Employees receive up to 10 paid holidays to enjoy many of our nation’s celebrations with family and friends. Retirement Programs The State of Mississippi provides all its employees a Defined Benefit / Defined Contribution Retirement Program.

Employees become vested in the State’s retirement system after 8 years of employment. Both you and your employing agency contribute toward your retirement.
