What You'll Do
The Staff Thermal Simulation Engineer is responsible for assisting in the development of key thermal components & systems from concept to engineering release of new products.
The Thermal Simulation Engineer troubleshoots thermal and / or airflow issues in new and existing product lines using empirical data and commercial CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) software.
The Staff Thermal Simulation Engineer plays an active role in developing thermal components using 3D CFD / CAD software and advanced engineering analysis.
In addition, the Staff Thermal Simulation Engineer provides regular Q&A and on-site support to ZT Systems’ manufacturing engineering group as well as technical support for customers.
- Development of CFD and Thermal simulation methods and the integration into existing / emerging engineering development processes, recommend design changes and optimize configurations
- Troubleshoot thermal and / or airflow issues in new and existing product lines
- Work with the engineering team to optimize the thermal performance of servers using empirical data and commercial CFD software.
- Optimize airflow speed, volume, and flow paths to meet customer and components requirements
- Interface with the Firmware team to implement preliminary fan speed control parameter / algorithm
- Support custom engineering projects that require hands-on ability to interconnect complex server systems
- Produce thermal reports from CFD modeling / experimental experience
- Manage ECO (Engineering Change Order) process for and provide validation for design modifications
- Analyze and solve technical problems / issues in a fast-paced environment
- Produce engineering documents that include design drawings, installation manuals, etc.
- Support procurement team to identify and manage 3rd party vendors
- Liquid cooling components survey, study and simulate
What You'll Bring
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Master's Degree or PHD helpful.
- Strong commercial CFD Software skills (FloTherm preferred)
- Strong engineering mathematics background including Numerical Methods, Linear Algebra, or Statistical Methods.
- Strong knowledge of heat transfer and fluid mechanics
- 3D CAD Software skills (Creo or SolidWorks preferred)
- Comfortable to working in a lab and fast-paced environment
- Advanced engineering analysis ability (linear or nonlinear regression analysis or data visualization)
- Programs skill set such as LabVIEW and scripted languages such as Python is a plus
- Experience with testing experience is a plus
