Assist students in the Writing Center and provide feedback on writing assignments
Reports To Writing Center Supervisor What position(s) reports to this position? None Minimum Education / Experience To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria :
1. Be a current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the fall or spring semesters or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the summer.
2. Have completed ENGL 1113 (English Composition I) and ENGL 1213 (English Composition II) with a final grade of B or above.
Have completed ENGL 1113 with a final grade of B or above and enrolled in ENGL 1213.
Have successfully completed ENGL 1113 (English Composition I) and ENGL 1213 (English Composition II) and be recommended by an OCCC faculty member who can speak to the candidate’s qualifications for the position (letter of recommendation must be provided and must accompany a writing sample).
3. Have a cumulative or institutional GPA over 2.5 Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Windows or similar software.
Demonstrates excellent writing skills and knowledge of the writing process.
Understands grammar rules and documentation styles such as MLA .
Excellent verbal communication.
Ability to work effectively online.
Proficient clerical skills such as answering phones and entering data.
Positive human relations skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills and conflict resolution.
Understands the value of a peer leadership role. Physical Demands / Working Conditions 1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Sedentary work : The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES :
This position requires the person to frequently move about the center to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, and staff to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position frequently requires the person to operate and inspect a computer and other Writing Center equipment to assist and / or instruct students on proper operation.
3. VISUAL ACUITY :
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor center, classroom, or office setting. Preferred Qualifications NA Required Training Work Hours Flexible depending on the needs of the Writing Center during business hours, Monday through Friday and Saturdays during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Assist students with their writing through the Writing Center’s online tutoring program.
Provide supplemental instruction to clarify and reinforce class instruction and text.
Assist faculty and students in the use of computers, computer learning programs, and worksheets.
Assist in simple cleaning of center carrels, tables, desks, computer keyboards, and computer screens, as directed by the supervisor.
Provide information to faculty regarding student progress and center use by filling out tutoring form.
Participate in tutor training programs.
Perform miscellaneous filing and other clerical duties for the center.
Conduct tours of the center and in-class presentations as needed. Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures) Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures
Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
