Diesel Mechanic (Skilled Machinist) - A machinist services, inspects, tests, maintains and repairs locomotives.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities :
- Must complete all work in compliances with FRA, MBTA, and Keolis Commuter Services standards.
- Performs scheduled maintenance inspections, preventative maintenance inspections and unscheduled maintenance inspection.
- Repairs and replaces components.
- Troubleshoots and performs fault detection on mechanical systems.
- Performs modification from drawings, prints or mechanical schematics.
- Comply with all related safety rules and procedures and reports all hazards as required.
- Must document job tasks or work performed manually or electronically and submit as required.
- Attend and participate in all assigned training, specifically safety and security related.
- Other duties as assigned during emergencies.
Core Skills Required for this Job :
- Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Combination of position related training, education and experience.
- Must demonstrate mechanical ability and experience.
- Must be capable of using all related hand and power tools including pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
- Must have the ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints and schematics.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of and familiarity with diesel engines and their major components.
- Must prove capabilities through the successful completion of applicable test(s) and examination(s).
- A good level of understanding of the basic equipment functions as they pertain to railroad locomotives is preferred.
- Must be able to communicate successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and vendors.
- Satisfactory prior work history.
- Must be able to travel and work at all Commuter Rail locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in all weather conditions.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Factors :
- Work is indoors and outdoors.
- This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb ladders, talk and listen, lift up to fifty (50) pounds and reach with both hands and both arms.
- Position requires ability to climb onto rail equipment.
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also required.
- The position will be exposed to loud environments, outdoor weather, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration and electricity.
