HHS Public Health Bismarck, ND Health Inspector
Sign-on Bonus Up to $4000!
$4,600 - $5,700 / month (5% increase available after successfully completing six months of employment.)
Shift : Option to work four (4) 10-hour days; five (5) eight 8-hour days
Conduct health and sanitation inspections to ensure establishments are following applicable state laws, rules, industry principles and policies for an assigned territory (primarily South Central and Southwest North Dakota) using an assigned state fleet vehicle.
As our Health Inspector you will travel and conduct health and sanitation inspections of licensed food and / or lodging establishments, mobile home parks, recreational vehicle parks, campgrounds, body art and tanning facilities within an assigned territory.
You will use your knowledge of state laws, rules, industry principles and policies to make compliance decisions based on observations, interviews, and record reviews.
You will prepare complaint investigations, foodborne illness and injury investigations and assist with strategic planning as well as emergency planning and response.
In addition, you will prepare educational materials and information sharing skills to improve the transparency of government, engage and extend resources to the regulated community and inform consumers.
To succeed in this role, you can develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders while working independently and within a team.
You make decisions based on knowledge and observations and convey and present information clearly and concisely. You are a life-long learner especially when it comes to environmental and regulatory program areas.

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following :
- A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or in a physical, chemical or biological science.
- Be currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an Environmental Health Practitioner and possession of or the ability to obtain, the professional designation of a Registered Environmental Health Specialist / Registered Sanitarian (REHS / RS) with the National Environmental Health Association, within five (5) years of hire.
A valid driver’s license is required.
ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model. This position will work from home and is responsible for an assigned territory primarily in Central North Dakota.
Travel within the state of North Dakota is required. At least 50% of this position’s duties will require daily travel; mostly day trips and some overnight stays as needed.
A state fleet car, meal allowance and lodging expenses are provided for daily travel and when overnight travel is necessary.
