JOB SUMMARY : Under the direction of Director of Nursing, the Nurse Supervisor provides nursing care to residents in the Health Care Center through assessment, planning implementations and reevaluation of resident needs.
Carries out and interprets policies, procedures, local, state, and federal regulations in the Health Care Center. Responsible for directing care given by Certified Nurse Assistants.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES : Employee will apply skills to ensure Person Centered Care as exhibited through our Pillars of Excellence :

- Oversee the nursing department primarily in HCC, but may need to assist with AL and MC needs at times.
- Ensure the staffing schedules are maintained and troubleshooting any urgent staffing needs.
- Counsel & evaluate nursing personnel performance using quality assurance standards and established policies & procedure.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Observes resident, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor, physician, and / or family of resident's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and unusual incidents.
- Participates in daily rounds.
- Assists with the new admission entry process and audits.
- Greeting new admissions and assisting with troubleshooting any immediate needs they may have.
- Assesses resident needs, and provides necessary nursing care as per resident's care plan.
- Assures that resident rights are maintained.
- Handles resident, family, or physician complaints / concerns, referring issues to DON as necessary.
- Respects advance directives and assists residents to a dignified death; and provides emotional and spiritual support to family and other staff as needed.
- Responds to life threatening situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Works to maintain a clean, safe, homelike atmosphere, and respects the individuality of each resident.
- Participates in organizational safety program and Performance Improvement activities.
- Attends in-services given by other departments when applicable to this position.
- Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively with residents, staff, and families.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- Understanding of Point Click Care or similar systems.
- Experience in long term care or assisted living recommended.
- Knowledge of monitoring medication.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with residents, families, and employees.
- Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing recommended.
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse License in Illinois.
- Basic Life Support (CPR).
- Minimum one year experience as a charge nurse or nursing supervisor required.
- SNF and LTC experience preferred.
- Experience with elderly.
- Proficient written and oral communication skills.
- Comfortable kneeling, carrying, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods of time.
- Ability to perform continuous physical exertion as needed.
