General Manager - Parcel Solutions
Role Summary
Our client is seeking a General Manager, Parcel Solutions, to join their rapidly growing team. This role oversees the entire sort operations within a high-volume and highly automated small package sort center.
The GM ensures compliance with operational processes and safety procedures to meet on-time and error-free sort guidelines.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead a staff of 500+ internal employees, contingent employees, and managers with responsibilities to include but not limited to hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance evaluation and management, discipline, addressing employee concerns, and staff productivity
- Work with the Lead Team to plan, organize, staff, direct, and control the day-to-day operations of the assigned sort
- Moving 100K+ packages, cartons, or units in and out of a facility daily (not grouped in pallets) Open to manufacturing experience if daily volume exceeds.
- Ensure the sort center is running per established safety, quality, and service standards while meeting cost and productivity goals are met
- Oversee or ensure daily visual inspections of loads to ensure proper quality for customers and vendors
- Plan sort strategy based on projected volume, line haul timing, headcount, and other special circumstances and factors
- Monitor location and timing of line hauls, making critical decisions regarding the timing of unloading, sorting, and reloading
- Coordinate with engineering teams to facilitate, plan, and execute enhancements to the building capabilities
- Work in conjunction with maintenance teams to ensure that equipment is maintained and serviced regularly and properly
- Create, develop, and implement best practices to drive efficiency and accuracy in sort operations
Skills & Proficiencies
- GED or Diploma is required; a bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field is preferred
- 5+ years experience managing a 500K+ sqft facility varying in level from entry-level workforce to Managerial direct reports
- Minimum of six (6) years of people management experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing, sortation, or similar industry or an equivalent combination of both education and specific work experience
- Data-driven decision-making skills required (specific metrics / data)
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build professional rapport, effectively lead a team, and positively influence diverse groups
- Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team
- Proven ability to apply sound business judgment to establish and accomplish goals
- Ability to effectively lead others, including leading and developing managers while managing conflict
- Professional verbal and written communication skills to communicate with various audiences and ability to effectively provide employees instruction on process and practice
- Effective at meeting deadlines and reporting results and KPIs regularly
- Ability to understand and operate automated sort systems
- Ability / Oversee the PM of equipment
- Command of efficient floor loading and palletizing procedures
- Understanding of P&L and ability to manage Costs of Facility, Personnel, Supplies and Equipment
- Customer service skills necessary to effectively and professionally respond to requests and issues
- Ability to read, interpret, and draw conclusions from quantitative and qualitative data and written information
- Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications, experience with common supply chain and logistics software preferred
